We are seeking a mission-focused Data Scientist to support research and
development initiatives related to Space Domain Awareness (SDA). Based
in Dayton, this role will contribute to analytic tools, data fusion
techniques, and algorithm development that enhance the nation's ability
to monitor and interpret activity in the space environment.
The ideal candidate will bring experience working with large,
multi-source datasets, particularly in support of orbital object
tracking, threat characterization, or sensor-driven space intelligence
and will be comfortable operating in a cleared, R&D-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Apply data science methods (ML, statistical modeling, time-series
analysis) to space-based and ground-based observation data
- Support prototype development and exploratory analysis for SDA
workflows and sensor analytics
- Integrate, clean, and fuse diverse datasets such as satellite
telemetry, radar, EO/IR, and SIGINT
- Collaborate with R&D teams, analysts, and mission engineers to shape
SDA solutions
- Contribute to performance evaluation of algorithms and models under
real-world conditions
- Communicate findings clearly through technical reports, dashboards,
and briefings
Required Qualifications:
- Active TS/SCI clearance with ability to obtain CI Polygraph
- Background with SDA concepts, orbital mechanics, or satellite
tracking
- Knowledge of space threat characterization or SDA mission
architecture
- Proficiency in Python and common data science libraries (e.g.,
NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn, matplotlib)
- Experience with Jupyter, version control (Git), and secure
development workflows
- Strong communication skills and ability to interface with technical
and operational personnel
- Mid Level Candidates: B.A./B.S. Degree and 4+ years of experience
applying data science techniques to mission-relevant datasets
- Senior Level Candidates: B.A./B.S. Degree and 10+ years of
experience paplying data science techniques to mission-relevant
datasets
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting NGA, NASIC, or other IC/DoD space mission
partners
- Familiarity with Kalman filters, sensor modeling, or object state
estimation
- Knowledge of space threat characterization or SDA mission
architecture
- Foundation GEOINT knowledge (A GEOINT foundational layer includes
essential datasets like precise imagery, topography, gravity and
magnetic models, geodetic surveys, navigational features, and
human‑geography layers that enable integration and analysis across
disciplines and mission contexts)
- Experience with containerization (Docker), cloud environments, or
HPC workflows
