Data Engineering Lead
Overview As a data engineering architect and team lead, you will be the key technical expert developing and overseeing PepsiCo's data product build & operations and drive a strong vision for how data engineering can proactively create a positive impact on the business. You'll be an empowered lead of a team of data engineers who build data pipelines into various source systems, rest data on the PepsiCo Data Lake, and enable exploration and access for analytics, visualization, machine learning, and product development efforts across the company. As the chief data engineering lead from Plano-onshore, you will spearhead the development of very large and complex data applications into public cloud environments directly impacting the design, architecture, and implementation of PepsiCo's flagship data products around topics like revenue management, supply chain, manufacturing, and logistics. You will work closely with process owners, product owners and business users. You'll be working in a hybrid environment with in-house, on-premise data sources as well as cloud and remote systems Responsibilities Serve as a thought partner to senior leadership, providing insight on how to structure teams and systems for greater self-direction and resilience. Define and drive the architecture and strategy of the enterprise data engineering platform aligned with business objectives, digital transformation initiatives, and industry best practices. Assume ownership of the selection, implementation, and scaling of modern data platforms (e.g., Databricks, Azure Synapse, Kafka, etc.) pertaining to Enterprise Data Foundation. Implement robust data security frameworks (e.g., role-based access, data lineage, PII/PHI handling, and compliance such as SOX). Partner with cross-functional engineering, analytics, security, cloud infrastructure, and business teams to standardize and modernize data assets and services. Mentor engineering teams on optimization, performance tuning, and reliability engineering. Establish architectural standards and best practices, including reusable patterns for ingestion, modeling, quality, and access control. Implement end-to-end agentic AI systems, including intelligent agents, leveraging advanced NLP techniques and large language models (LLMs). Create detailed technical specifications and documentation for conversational and agentic AI solutions. Deploy multiple AI Agents using various model serving endpoints, and orchestration frameworks like LangGraph and Crew.ai or their commercial equivalent. Optimize cloud resources for efficient processing of natural language queries, LLM inferences, and agentic workflows. Implement serverless architectures and containerized solutions (Docker, Kubernetes) for deploying and managing various agentic AI models. Develop and implement knowledge graphs and vector databases (e.g., Azure Cognitive Search, Pinecone, Weaviate) to support agentic AI systems. Implement data retrieval and augmentation strategies, including Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) to enhance the accuracy and relevance of agentic responses. Develop APIs and microservices to expose the agentic AI framework for seamless integration with enterprise systems and third-party services. Implement CI/CD pipelines for automated deployment and testing of data engineering pipelines and agentic AI models. Implement Performance Optimization of Agentic AI systems. Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and engineers to define and deliver data engineering and agentic AI solutions. Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and concise manner. Compensation and Benefits: The expected compensation range for this position is between $118,700 - $198,800. Location, confirmed job-related skills, experience, and education will be considered in setting actual starting salary. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range during the hiring process. Bonus based on performance and eligibility target payout is 15% of annual salary paid out annually. Qualifications 12 years of progressive experience in strategy, innovation, transformation, or leadership development roles. 3+ years of experience in developing and implementing Agentic AI solutions. Strong proficiency in Python, Databricks, all Azure Data services, Azure AI Services. Hands on experience with Vector Databases, SQL. Experience with Agent Orchestration Framework like LangGraph, LangChain , LlamaIndex. Understanding of LLMs , Open AI , Claud , Llama. Experience in Docker and Kubernetes. Proven track record of driving large-scale change and leading high-performing, empowered teams. Strong influence and stakeholder management skills, especially at senior executive levels. Experience facilitating workshops, leadership forums. Excellent communication and storytelling skills, both verbal and written. Masters in Computer science or relevant field.
