This role is hybrid and requires you to be at our client office at a minimum 5 days per month - subject to change at any time.
Your future duties and responsibilities:. Support senior engineers in designing and developing data pipelines on the Azure platform
. Build and maintain data ingestion workflows using ADF/Synapse and Databricks under guidance
. Develop PySpark/Spark SQL scripts for data transformation, validation and cleansing
. Assist in preparing technical artefacts such as data flow diagrams, interface specifications and workflow mappings
. Work with data engineers to implement source → landing → curated → consumption layer pipelines
. Perform unit testing, data validation and defect fixes to ensure pipeline quality
. Implement basic error handling, logging and monitoring as part of pipeline development
. Support SIT/UAT activities — replicate test scenarios, verify data flows, investigate defects
. Collaborate with platform teams for access setup, environment readiness and configuration requirements
. Participate in code reviews and follow established engineering standards, naming conventions and best practices
. Document processes, job logic and operational runbooks for repeatability and knowledge transfer
. Continuously learn new Azure data tools, Databricks capabilities and modern data engineering patterns
Expected Skills:
.3-4 years of experience as Data Engineer .
. Basic experience in building or supporting data pipelines on Azure or similar cloud platforms
. Foundational understanding of Azure data services, including:
– Azure Data Lake (folders, access patterns, file handling)
– Azure Databricks / Spark (notebooks, basic PySpark/Spark SQL)
– Azure Data Factory / Synapse Pipelines (copy activities, triggers, simple workflows) . Understanding of ETL/ELT concepts, file-based ingestion, and working with APIs or database sources
. Ability to work with multiple data formats (CSV, JSON, Parquet) and perform basic transformations
. Working knowledge of SQL for querying, filtering, joining and validating data
. Exposure to PySpark or Python programming for data manipulation
. Good understanding of non-functional fundamentals: data quality, basic performance awareness, error handling, logging
. Familiarity with Azure security basics such as Key Vault, service principals, RBAC (nice to have)
. Willingness to learn cloud engineering, CI/CD, performance tuning, and advanced data pipeline concepts
. Strong communication skills, proactive attitude, and ability to collaborate with senior developers, data engineers and QA teams
. Training/Certifications (nice to have): Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900), DP-900 Data Fundamentals, Databricks Lakehouse Fundamentals.
