Amazon Worldwide Operations Security (WWOS) is seeking an experienced, innovative, and strategic Data Engineer to join our Global Security Risk & Resilience (GSRR) team. As global supply chains have grown increasingly complex and vulnerable to external disruption, this role has become critical to our operations.
The ideal candidate will possess deep technical skills in data engineering, science, insights, and optimization. You'll be comfortable diving into complex problems and implementing sustainable processes and standards. Your primary focus will be driving optimization opportunities to reduce delivery cycle times and enhance quality without compromising service availability.
In this role, you will leverage your data engineering expertise to address the evolving challenges faced by our customers, scale data services to meet changing needs and demands and implement innovative solutions to enhance the security and resilience of our global operations

Key job responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of data engineers.
- Support the team with recruiting, onboarding, and retaining top talent.
- Oversee the design and implementation of scalable data pipelines.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data needs and design solutions.
- Align data solutions with WWOS architecture goals (cost, security, scalability).
- Manage multiple data engineering projects across the Org.
- Provide technical guidance to the team on complex data challenges.
- Evaluate new technologies and tools for data infrastructure.
- Lead design and code reviews to maintain high quality standards.
- Monitor and optimize data infrastructure and pipelines for performance and reliability.
- Implement data governance, security, and privacy best practices.
- Communicate effectively with senior leadership on strategy, progress, and challenges.
- Monitor and optimize the cost of data infrastructure and services.
- Manage budget for tools, platforms, and services used by the team.
Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years of data engineering experience
- Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines
- Experience with SQL
- Experience in at least one modern scripting or programming language, such as Python, Java, Scala, or NodeJS
- Experience mentoring team members on best practices
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with big data technologies such as: Hadoop, Hive, Spark, EMR
- Experience operating large data warehouses
