PD Transmission Data Analytics - Product Manager
Job Description
This posting is to fill a new position within the Power Delivery Data Analytics organization. This individual will be responsible for managing a portfolio of data analytics products supporting Transmission functions, including Finance, Scheduling, Operations, Resource Management, and Project Management. Primary responsibilities will include leading a project and/or project team, providing strategic direction with application development, overseeing product development from ideation to release (including testing, training, deployment, and support structure implementation), guiding product roadmaps and strategies, and collaborating with stakeholders across the enterprise. The successful candidate will work closely with other business units, various Technology Organization groups as well as external vendors.
This position is essential for supporting our capital investment strategy. This position will be part of a group of professionals including project managers, engineers, data analysts, data engineers, data architects, data scientists, and app developers. The team will combine expertise in PD operations and business intelligence with technology product development and advanced data science and analytics. The team will be responsible for data driven analytics programs and strategies across Alabama Power Company, Mississippi Power Company, and Georgia Power Company Power Delivery organizations. The team will be responsible for working with the PD Transmission business units to create data projects that drive operational efficiencies, reduce costs, enhance customer experience, improve reliability, and lay the foundation for future load growth. The role requires a combination of deep analytical expertise, business domain knowledge, strategic mindset, client relationship, project management skills, and the desire to build new capabilities across the Southern Company PD footprint. Understanding how to use knowledge of the electrical grid along with data from throughout the organization and combining it with advanced analytical methods will be critical to the success of this role.
Major Job Duties and Responsibilities
Successfully work in an organization that identifies, aggregates, analyzes, develops, and deploys data to drive comprehensive data and analytics efforts across all Southern Company’s electric operating companies, APC, MPC, and GPC. Ensure projects meet deadlines, budgets, and strategic priorities. Work to develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive data analytics strategy and roadmap to advance the utilization of data across the Power Delivery landscape for APC, MPC, and GPC. Oversight of report outs of strategic analytics efforts on a regular basis to key stakeholders, including but not limited to executive and senior leadership across all APC, MPC, and GPC. Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with TO and business organizations, as well as external strategic vendor partners. Work with Capital Budgeting teams across the system to prioritize the deployment of +$20 billion of capital dollars in asset investment among the T&D portfolios. This position will have a primary focus on Power Delivery Data Strategy, Data Governance, and Data Analytics. Establish exceptional working relationships with internal stakeholders across APC, MPC, and GPC Power Delivery Transmission, Distribution, and Operations. Create alignment in priorities and product development across APC, MPC, and GPC leadership teams. Provide leadership for teams responsible for the development, deployment, and maintenance of data analytics applications, reports and tools. Act as a subject matter expert for Transmission Project Controls and application support. Work with external data and product vendors that provide enabling technologies in data storage, data development and data analytics. Collaborate with the Transmission Project Management Organization, Business Operations, and other business unit teams and stakeholders to support Transmission Capital reporting and related needs.Job Requirements: Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills
Education
B.S. degree in Engineering, Data Analytics, Computer Science, or a related field is preferred M.S. degree in a related field and/or relevant industry certifications are preferredKnowledge and Experience
Proficient in Transmission applications such as Primavera P6, TEAMS (estimating), and STOMP. Transmission project controls and applications support. Basic understanding of regulatory standards in energy and engineering environments. Strong Power Delivery financial and Transmission capital project knowledge. Proven experience in Project Management, Project Controls, or a related role. 5+ years of experience in Power Delivery in Southern Company preferred. Broad knowledge of and experience with internal company data, data systems, and data sources, as well as external data & data sources. Basic understanding of Transmission substation and line design. Experience effectively leveraging vendors, consultants, and suppliers. Experience managing and prioritizing multiple projects simultaneously involving internal and external stakeholders.Abilities and Skill

Outstanding problem solving and strategic thinking skills. Strong analytical, math and problem-solving skills. Experience with data analytics and reporting tools such as Power BI preferred.
