Damage Claims Coordinator
Job Description Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented, tech-savvy professional to support an electric utility client’s Claims Department. The utility owns and maintains transmission and distribution lines, substations, streetlights, and generation assets across Indiana. These assets may be damaged by events such as severe weather, vehicle accidents, or excavation activities. In this role, you will support an internal claims team responsible for processing damage claims and recovering costs from insurance companies. You will work across multiple systems and portals to gather claim information, organize, and track data in Excel, and close claims once they are resolved. The current claims backlog dates to 2024. The primary objective is to process all outstanding claims and bring the team fully up to date with 2026 claims by December 31, 2026. The ideal candidate is a critical thinker who can manage deadlines, work independently, and contribute process improvement ideas to the team. Day to Day: • Report to the Claims Manager and collaborate closely with claims coordinators and peer team members • Review, assess, and process current and historical damage claims • Communicate with insurance companies to discuss claim details and recovery outcomes • Learn and interpret insurance policies to ensure accurate handling of each damage claim • Collect, track, and maintain claims data using Excel, SAP, and internal claims portals • Monitor claims systems for new damage reports and required follow-up actions • Partner with team members to improve workflows, documentation, and filing processes • Close an average of 10 claims per day while meeting quality and accuracy standards • Review supporting documentation such as police reports, invoices, and related records to ensure complete claim submissions We are a company committed to creating diverse and inclusive environments where people can bring their full, authentic selves to work every day. Skills and Requirements Must Haves: • 4+ years of experience in a claims, investigations, or related role • Advanced Excel skills, including the ability to build and maintain tracking tools and dashboards • Proven experience identifying and implementing process improvements • Background in construction, utilities, or a similar operational field
