Job Title: Custodian (Building Services)

Job Description

Custodians are responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and safety of facilities and grounds on campus. They are expected to perform a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks to ensure a pristine environment.

Responsibilities

Clean floors, ramps, and stairs by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming.Service, clean, and supply restrooms.Gather and empty recycling and trash.Clean and polish fixtures.Replace light bulbs.Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using appropriate cleaning solutions.Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.Steam clean or shampoo carpets.Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors.Clean, replace, and hang blinds, drapes, and entrance mats.Collect and deliver soiled items.Lock, unlock, and secure buildings; maintain awareness of building security.Identify and report needed building repairs.Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Essential Skills

6 months to 1 year of custodial or janitorial experience.Ability to stand and walk for the duration of the shift.Ability to bend and squat to reach hard-to-clean places.Ability to lift and pull up to 50 lbs.Ability to perform work that requires medium to heavy physical effort.Customer service mindset and personality.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Commercial or industrial cleaning experience is a plus.Leadership or supervisory experience within custodial or janitorial work is a plus.Ability to operate cleaning vehicles such as scrubbers is a plus.

Work Environment

Custodians work across various zones on campus, primarily in administrative buildings, but may also be assigned to dorms, halls, and athletic facilities. The role is physically demanding, requiring standing for the entire shift and moving swiftly across zones. Custodians must be prepared to handle any messes encountered on campus, with the assurance that they will not be expected to engage with anything dangerous or harmful. The work environment is fast-paced and dynamic.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bloomington, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $15.00 - $15.00/hr.
