Job Title: Custodian

Job Description:

As a custodian, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and upkeep of the facilities and grounds on campus. This role requires a strong sense of ownership and a commitment to ensuring that all areas are kept clean and safe for students, faculty, and visitors.

Responsibilities:

Clean floors, ramps, and stairs by sweeping, wet mopping/dust mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming.Service, clean, and supply restrooms.Gather and empty recycling and trash.Clean and polish fixtures.Replace light bulbs.Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using appropriate cleaning solutions.Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.Steam clean or shampoo carpets.Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors.Clean, replace, and hang blinds, drapes, and entrance mats.Collect and deliver soiled items.Clear sidewalks, drives, and adjacent areas, including snow shoveling.Lock, unlock, and secure buildings while maintaining security awareness.Identify and report needed building repairs.Assist with snow removal activities as necessary.Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Essential Skills:

6 months to 1 year of custodial or janitorial experience preferred.Ability to stand and walk for the duration of the shift.Capability to bend and squat to reach difficult areas.Ability to lift and pull up to 50 lbs.Capacity to perform medium to heavy physical effort.Customer service mindset and personality.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

Commercial or industrial cleaning experience is a plus.Leadership or supervisory experience within custodial or janitorial work is advantageous.Ability to operate cleaning vehicles such as scrubbers is desirable.

Work Environment:

Custodians will work in various zones across the campus, primarily focusing on administrative buildings but may also assist in dorms, halls, and athletic facilities. The role involves physically demanding tasks, requiring standing and moving for extended periods. The work environment is fast-paced and requires adaptability to clean and maintain different areas efficiently.

Job Type & Location:

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bloomington, Indiana.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $15.00 - $15.00/hr.
