CTD - Lab Technician - O&P

Job Overview and Responsibilities:

Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing a range of laboratory tests and analyses to ensure that plant processes and products meet required safety, quality and turnaround specifications. This role involves conducting routine testing of feedstock, intermediates, and finished products, as well as providing support for environmental monitoring and regulatory compliance. The Lab Technician works closely with operations and engineering teams to provide timely and accurate data that supports refinery efficiency and product quality. 

Primary responsibilities include the following (but are not limited to):

Works closely with client operations, production and engineering teams to maintain laboratory testing and reporting requirements. Collects and prepares samples from plant process steams, including intermediate products, finished products and environmentals samples for analytical and physical properties testing. Maintain and support laboratory services while maintaining proficiency and specialized knowledge of all routine analysis within laboratory, while ensuring all testing is completed according to established SOP’s and standards. Perform routine and instrument calibrations, maintenance and  troubleshooting to ensure reliable and accurate testing.  Arrange for instrument vendor support for complex issues. Accurately record, analyze and report test data in a timely manner. Coordinate off-site lab testing samplings, shipping and data reporting. Identifies operational, analytical, safety, and quality best practice improvement opportunities. Actively supports and complies with all Bureau Veritas and client laboratory and site safety rules. Identifies and communicates any deviations from product quality specifications or non-conformances to management and assist with investigations and corrective actions. All other responsibilities as assigned.

 

You are the ideal Laboratory Technician if:

Bachelor of Science or technical diploma (i.e. Chemical Technology) with strong focus in practical hands-on chemistry/laboratory science or equivalent. 2+ years of relevant, broad based experience in commercial or industrial laboratory environment. Hands-on laboratory experience in the following areas are strongly preferred: Field sampling and sample preparation of finished petroleum and fuels products. Gas Chromatography for ASTM D2887 Simulated Distillation Analyses Petroleum physical and chemical analyses including water content, viscosity, density, flash point, freezing, and smoke points. Experience with Fuel and Jet Fuel, ASTM D7566 testing in particular, strongly desired. Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and written, frequently interacting with client operations and engineering teams. Must possess strong organizational, analytical and problem solving skills. Confident working independently with little direct supervision.  Take pride and ownership of the laboratory space.

 

Schedule:

 

Monday to Friday, 40 hour schedule. May be required to work rotating shift including on-call, evening, weekend and holidays to meet the 24/7 operational requirements of the facility.

 

Working Conditions:

 

Working conditions are typical of those found in laboratories and may include extended periods of sitting, standing and walking.  May include working outdoors in varying weather conditions. Must maintain a valid Driver’s license or equivalent with less than 5 demerits.  Employee must have reliable transportation to out-of-town facility (<15 minute drive). Must be able to pass background and drug & alcohol test, as well as comply with client specific site regulations including use of PPE.
