Certified CS/SPD Technicians are responsible for cleaning and maintaining surgical tools and hospital equipment. It is your job to make sure that the sterilized tools are then organized into trays containing the instruments required for routine or special surgeries. You are also responsible for checking equipment to make sure it is in good repair and up to date.   

A caregiver in this position works PRN (As Needed on Saturdays, plus as needed shifts during the week). The caregiver will need to be able to float between other Family Health Centers, but the primary location will be at Beachwood.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

Provide safe, efficient practices for decontamination, instrument assembly, wrapping and sterilization of all reprocessed instruments and distribution equipment.  

Perform case pull functions.  

Determine appropriate case carts to be built for specialty procedures.  

Build case carts ensuring adherence to procedures.  

Dispatch case carts to ensure availability for surgical/clinical procedures.  

Perform record keeping, ordering, stocking and inventory control. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

High School Diploma or GED 

Two to five years of experience in central service/sterile processing areas 

A Sterile Processing certification (e.g., CRCST, CSPDT, CFER, or CER) 

Completion of a recognized training program with certification in central service/sterile processing 

Proficient in using computerized instrument tracking systems 

Military experience, such as Hospital Corpsmen (HM), Machinery Repairman (MR), Aircraft Maintenance Technician (2A3X3), Biomedical Equipment Specialist (68A), Small Arms Repairer (91F), or similar, will be considered  

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

Basic computer skills 

Physical Requirements:

Requires full range of body motion, including handling and lifting items that weigh 20-30 pounds.

Requires the ability to push a fully loaded cart weighing up to 200+ pounds.

Possible exposure to biological and chemical contamination.

Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.

Requires corrected vision and hearing to within normal range.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
