CREW LEADER

McCormick & Company, Inc., a global leader in the spice, flavor, and seasonings industry, is seeking a full-time Crew Leader on a Production Team. This new hire will work at Brand Aromatics, located in Lakewood, NJ. The Crew Leader will report to an Operations Manager.

As leader of the shift team, the Crew Leader sets the example of team leadership within the MHPS environment.  The Crew Leader ensures overall performance of team to include quality, safety, process reliability, sanitation, GMP’s, and material yield.  Also, this position pro-actively encourages continuous improvement and daily problem solving initiatives to increase operational effectiveness and efficiencies.  Must be able to effectively coach, train, and ensure 100% compliance to plant established procedures (including work rule, safety and sanitation guidelines) while demonstrating a deep respect for the capabilities of all people, believing that people will contribute to what they understand and feel is in their best and self-interest.  Must be able to structure their approach based on the core belief that the success of the company depends upon the capabilities and contributions of all people in the organization. 

  

RESPONSIBILITES 

Utilizes the McCormick High Performance System (MHPS) to engage each member of the team and promote teamwork.  Leads by example and drives the safety culture by ensuring core safety principles and values are followed and improved.  Leverages the safety, quality, reliability, sanitation and waste member of the STAR to guarantee a safe, clean, organized and defect-free environment at all time.  Removes barriers and obstacles to team performance. Demonstrates a sense of urgency, ownership and tenacity to resolve problems.  Communicates daily with the Team Manager to ensure daily management is effectively executed. Attends meetings and / or leads when the Team Manager is not available. Facilitates daily team huddles and weekly team meetings.  Ensures operational discipline by guaranteeing that all procedures (SOPs), baselines (CBAs) and best practices (OPLs) are consistently followed and standardized  Plans, directs and supports the daily activities the Technician team members to achieve daily, weekly and monthly goals and business initiatives.  Resolves daily issues and minor mechanical problems and coordinates the need for non routine adjustments and repairs through the maintenance team member.  Fills in and relieves for team member breaks and other planned and unplanned absences.  Coordinates shift staffing, including, vacation scheduling and the coordination of labor in order to guarantee the lowest cost.  Provides input to evaluations and development/training plans for individuals within the team and effectively handles team interaction, including conflict management.  Coaches / trains and on-boards new team members. Builds technical and business competencies.  Interacts cross functionally with other areas to share resources and support total plant objectives (including, but not limited to, Material Mgmt, QA, HR, product to packaging development, facilities maintenance, engineering etc…).  Leads and or facilitates continuous improvements initiatives, including PDCA and root cause analysis 

  

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

Three years manufacturing/industrial experience.  Ability to understand financial impact of business decisions affecting staffing, product components, inventory, etc.  Formal leadership training and demonstrated practice of leadership principles.  Demonstrated analytical/critical thinking skills to determine risk assessment.  Knowledge of packaging/processing equipment, understands the importance of PM, AM, and TPM processes.  Knowledge of SAP or other enterprise resource planning tool.    Demonstrated competency to operate all equipment in the business 

  

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

High School Diploma/GED or equivalent preferred  Basic understanding of organizational and plant objectives, including the attainment of established PR scorecard metrics. Strong mechanical ability and understanding of packaging/processing equipment. 

 

Overtime is mandatory at times and regular attendance is required as essential job responsibilities for the position.
