The Credit Underwriter is a developing professional role which integrates in-depth specialty knowledge with a solid understanding of industry standards and practices; demonstrates good understanding of how the team and area integrate with others in accomplishing the objectives of the subfunction/ job family. Applies analytical thinking and knowledge of data analysis tools and methodologies. Breaks down information in a systematic and communicable manner. Developed communication and diplomacy skills are required in order to exchange potentially complex/sensitive information. Moderate but direct impact through close contact with the businesses' core activities. Quality and timeliness of service provided will affect the effectiveness of own team and other closely related teams. **Responsibilities:** + Provides prompt, courteous and excellent service at an acceptable cost to all customers and operate in accordance with the company's Statement of Business Practices, Affirmative Action Diversity and other standards. + Engages with all entities of Citigroup. Performs credit and property analysis on conventional loan files submitted within the time frame established by departmental management. + Adequately and effectively explains in written and verbal form the decision reached in a manner that will maintain a + positive relationship with all customers. + Performs timely reviews of conditions submitted, as well as loan resubmissions. + Handles higher risk loans. Analyze challenging loan packages to render sound credit solutions. + Provides exemplary customer service to both internal staff and external customer by explaining credit decision and + offering alternative options when needed. + Maintains quality and production standards as defined by business. Sr. Underwriters may mentor other Underwriters. + Performs other duties and functions as assigned + Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency. **Qualifications:** + 2-5 years related experience + Experience with and knowledge of property and credit underwriting requirements of FNMA, FHLMC, and private mortgage insurance companies + Excellent oral and written communication skills are required + Be able to effectively make decisions in an manner as well as have the availability as a resource advisor for all staff + Good analytical, problem solving, organizational and communication skills are needed **Education:** + Bachelor’s/University degree or equivalent experience This job description provides a high-level review of the types of work performed.
