Creative Director, UPS Creative Studio

Role Overview

The Creative Director will define and execute a creative vision that aligns with UPS’s strategy and Global Communications priorities, elevating the brand through world-class storytelling and engaging diverse audiences. This role calls for expertise in creative direction, narrative development, and visual storytelling across formats, ensuring every piece of content is strategically aligned and creatively strong. The Creative Director will lead by modernizing the studio’s infrastructure and championing new tools and ways of working to deliver innovative, original, relevant, and impactful work that keeps audience needs and creative excellence front and center.

This role blends strategic thinking with operational oversight—leading and empowering a collaborative, agile team and supporting a culture of continuous learning and measurable improvement.

Responsibilities

 Creativity & Audience-First Leadership: Champion narrative excellence by guiding teams to craft compelling stories that reflect UPS’s values, mission and voice. Ensure storytelling is not only creative, but also strategic—designed to inspire, inform and move audiences across a variety of platforms and with diverse audiences.

Define and execute a creative vision that puts audience needs and creative excellence first, in partnership with the VP and in alignment with UPS’s Global Communications strategy and the Creative Studio’s goals.Inspire innovative thinking and ensure every project is relevant, original, and impactful for UPS’s diverse audiences.

Innovation & ModernizationChampion and implement the adoption of AI, automation, and emerging technologies to enhance creative workflows and increase audience engagement.Lead experimentation with techniques, new tools and processes to keep the studio at the forefront of creative trends.

Operational LeadershipManage and optimize daily studio operations, including managing project intake, prioritization and creative resourcing.Oversee infrastructure (DAM, Wrike, archives, vendor resource coordination) to support efficient workflows.Participate in budget planning and management in partnership with the VP.Oversee creative strategy, planning, and execution for large-scale virtual, hybrid, and live events—including events like earnings day, Leadership Conferences and Impact Summit ensuring audience and presenters’ engagement, brand consistency, and seamless integration across channels and formats.

Team Leadership & Development

Build a world-class creative team that elevates morale and accountability.

External PartnershipsBuild and maintain relationships with external agencies, freelancers, and partners to supplement in-house capabilities and expand creative perspectives.

Continuous Improvement

·Drive ongoing improvement of creative impact using data-driven insights.Use audience engagement metrics to refine storytelling approaches. Lead postmortems and creative reviews that assess storytelling effectiveness and identify opportunities to deepen emotional connection, engagement and brand strength.

Ensure projects are managed for visibility and alignment.Lead the team in setting and reviewing KPIs for creative excellence and audience relevance.Qualifications10+ years of experience in creative services, preferably in both in-house and/or agency environments, 5+ years in managing in-house creative teams.Strong operational background with hands-on experience managing creative pipelines, tools, vendors and archiving assets.Strategic thinker with a track record of integrating creative disciplines (e.g., design, video, events, social and digital).Experience modernizing teams through new tools (e.g., DAMs, Wrike, Adobe CC, AI tools like Firefly, Jasper, Kling, Google Veo).Proven ability to manage a team and influence contributors.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in a dynamic environment—a strong collaborator and team morale booster.Comfortable navigating resistance to change and coaching team members through transformation.Experience with data-driven creative measurement and continuous improvement.Experience managing or collaborating with external agencies, freelancers, or partners.Preferred QualificationsExperience in enterprise or corporate communications environments.Experience in overseeing and managing live, hybrid and virtual events.Familiarity with enterprise DAM systems and metadata best practices.Working knowledge of AI tools for design, storytelling, or content creation.
