OUR TEAM

Our Above Water Systems team provides engineering & maintenance services to Royal Australian Navy vessels and commercial ships. We’re proud to bolster Australia’s sovereign capability through operational support to our defence partners. With ongoing training programs and a team of over 500, our people have room to grow and develop an impactful career with us. Located centrally in Woolloomooloo's Garden Island, on Gadigal land.

Working in our Crane Crew as a Trainee at Thales, you’ll have a job that matters to us, to you and to everyone. Over our year 3-year traineeship program undertaking Certificate III in Construction Crane Operations means that you will have the chance to learn the technicalities of your traineeship and then apply this to a supportive environment whilst you learn on the job. We can provide the challenges and opportunities; all you need to do is bring a willingness to learn!
 

In the Crane Crew department, you will gain exposure to Maritime ship repairs, during this traineeship you will also gain experience and training in:

General lift of construction material for Ship Maintenance

Rigging & removal of major ship components in Dry Dock

Working safely at Heights in Boom Lifts & Manbox

Forklift operation

Mobile Crane & Portal Crane experience

Whilst we focus mostly on a great attitude and willingness to learn, here are a few key attributes you must bring to the role:

AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE ROLES & SECURITY

A Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain an appropriate clearance.

In some cases, individuals who hold a current clearance from a foreign government may be eligible to have this clearance recognised by the Australian Government and be eligible for this role.
