CPU Post-Silicon Validation Engineer
**Company:** Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. **Job Area:** Engineering Group, Engineering Group > CPU Engineering **General Summary:** Job Description As a “CPU Silicon Bring-Up and Validation Engineer,” you will be part of the CPU Silicon Bring-Up Team within the CPU organization. The charter of the CPU Silicon Bring-Up Team is to prepare for and support the bring-up of every SoC using custom CPUs—from first silicon through productization. **Roles and Responsibilities** + Collaborate with CPU design and verification teams to develop CPU bring-up and validation test plans. + Prepare for CPU bring-up through pre-silicon work on emulation and FPGA platforms. + Coordinate with SoC bring-up and software teams to plan CPU bring-up. + Triage and debug failures on silicon. + Develop test content and strategies to validate the CPU on silicon. + Collaborate with CPU verification teams to reproduce silicon failures on emulators and FPGAs. + Partner with the design team to propose and architect new debug features to improve future CPU bring-up efforts. **Minimum Qualifications:** • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and 4+ years of Hardware Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work experience. OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and 3+ years of Hardware Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work experience. OR PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and 2+ years of Hardware Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work experience. **Preferred Qualifications:** + 3+ years of experience in silicon validation and bring-up. + Experience in implementing embedded firmware in Assembly and C/C++. + Familiarity with software toolchains including assemblers, C compilers, Makefiles, and version control systems. + Strong understanding of microprocessor architecture. + Solid knowledge of power management and physical design concepts. + Experience in silicon bring-up and validation of CPU features. + Experience debugging functional, power, performance, and physical design issues, including speed path analysis on silicon. + Background in CPU design and verification. + Experience developing tests for validating CPU features on silicon. + Experience developing test vectors for tester bring-up. **Principal Duties and Responsibilities:** • Leverages advanced knowledge of computer architecture, micro-architecture, logic design, circuits, and/or physical design to develop and verify high performance and low power CPU designs. • Anticipates, identifies, and solves complex problems to ensure design completeness, functionality, power, and performance. • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to define requirements, specifications, and trade-offs (e.g., performance, power, cost, functionalities, etc.) in order to accomplish product goals. • Evaluates the design process from conceptualization to productization (i.e., architecture definition, feasibility, pre-silicon design and verification, and post-silicon validation) that meet customer and industry standards. • Writes detailed technical documentation (e.g., feature descriptions, architectural descriptions, verification test plans, and implementation details, etc.) for complex CPU designs. **Level of Responsibility:** • Works independently with minimal supervision. • Provides supervision/guidance to other team members. • Decision-making is significant in nature and affects work beyond immediate work group. • Requires verbal and written communication skills to convey information. May require basic negotiation, influence, tact, etc. • Has a moderate amount of influence over key organizational decisions. • Tasks do not have defined steps; planning, problem-solving, and prioritization must occur to complete the tasks effectively.
