Location: Ipswich Crown Court
Contract Type: Full-time, Temporary
Pay Rate: £13.51 per hour
Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 08:30-17:00 (1 hour unpaid lunch)

We are recruiting on behalf of our public sector client, HM Courts & Tribunals Service, who are seeking a Court Clerk to join their team at Ipswich Crown Court. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the justice system, supporting the smooth operation of courtroom proceedings in a professional and fast-paced environment.

About the Role:

As a Court Clerk, you will be responsible for managing courtrooms, ensuring that hearings run to schedule, supporting judiciary, legal professionals, and court users, and maintaining accurate and timely records. You will be the focal point of the courtroom, requiring confident public speaking, attention to detail, and strong communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage daily courtroom activity and ensure hearings start on timeProvide in-court support to judges and legal professionalsMaintain accurate records of judicial decisions, case outcomes, and hearing detailsOperate court recording equipment and ensure proper allocation of recordingsLiaise with the judiciary, List Office, ushers, jury officers, and external agenciesCommunicate with court users and the public, ensuring high levels of serviceConfidently speak in public, manage courtroom interactions, and adapt to change quicklySit in court and use correct legal phraseology during proceedingsPrepare the courtroom, meet with the judge, and coordinate case flowPrepare case summaries and judge's reportsMaintain logs of representation orders and related documentationProcess correspondence, witness expenses, and court orders in line with targetsAssist with PA duties to the judiciary, when requiredEnsure compliance with HMCTS financial and operational policies

Key Skills & Experience:

Excellent attention to detailStrong organisational and administrative skillsConfident public speaker with the ability to remain calm and professional under pressureGood IT skills and experience using case management or recording systemsClear and professional verbal and written communicationPrevious experience in a court, legal, or public sector environment is desirable but not essential
