Role Overview
We are seeking an accomplished Country Manager to lead and grow our Molecular Diagnostics business across Mozambique and the broader South East Africa region. The role carries full commercial, operational, and people leadership responsibility, with a strong focus on public and private sector growth, long-term sustainability, and stakeholder engagement.
The successful candidate will bring deep industry experience, a strong understanding of local healthcare funding mechanisms, established relationships within the Ministry of Health and local laboratory funders, and the ability to develop and execute country‑specific sales strategies. This is a senior leadership role requiring strategic thinking, commercial acumen, and proven people management capability.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial & Strategic Leadership
Partner closely with the Managing Director to define, develop, and execute a country‑specific strategy to profitably grow the Molecular Diagnostics business across both public and private sectors.Lead the South East Africa commercial operations (Mozambique, Malawi, Angola, Zambia), ensuring alignment with regional and global strategic priorities.Define and implement long‑term strategic plans, sales strategies, and tactical execution models to achieve revenue, profitability, and market share objectives.Hold full P&L responsibility, including revenue forecasting, performance tracking, and delivery against targets.Prepare, present, and manage annual business plans, including regular updates and performance reviews.Drive new business development, improve win‑rates, increase share of wallet, and expand value with existing customers.Propose and manage financial and human resource allocation to maximize productivity and business outcomes.Ensure all activities are conducted in compliance with legal, regulatory, and ethical standards.Sales Excellence & Operational Management
Lead and manage a team of Sales Executives and Ambassadors, ensuring execution of sales plans and operational excellence.Oversee contract negotiations, particularly around pricing, profitability, and long‑term agreements, supporting field teams where required.Monitor and control regional budgets and expenditure, ensuring financial discipline.Drive adoption and effective use of salesforce management systems, KPIs, incentive plans, and performance dashboards.Act as a trusted advisor and senior point of contact for key customers, ensuring contract adherence and service excellence.Manage customer escalations end‑to‑end, ensuring timely resolution and high customer satisfaction.Develop strong distributor partnerships, based on shared goals, accountability, and performance.Government, Funders & Stakeholder Engagement
Build and maintain strong working relationships with Ministry of Health officials, government bodies, regulatory agencies, and key advisors.Demonstrate a clear understanding of local healthcare funding mechanisms, donor structures, laboratory funding models, and procurement processes.Engage effectively with local and international funders supporting laboratory services and diagnostics programs.Develop credibility and presence within the national healthcare ecosystem to position the organization as a strategic partner.Customer & KOL Focus
Establish and execute structured Key Opinion Leader (KOL) engagement plans, in close collaboration with Marketing.Maintain regular engagement with top KOLs and C‑suite stakeholders.Implement tracking mechanisms to monitor and measure the effectiveness of KOL engagement.Maintain a deep understanding of market drivers, pricing dynamics, reimbursement challenges, and competitive landscape.Continuously analyze market data and translate insights into actionable strategies.People Leadership & Talent Development
Lead, motivate, and inspire high‑performing teams through coaching, mentoring, and performance management.Identify and develop high‑potential (HIPO) talent, implementing structured development and succession plans.Build leadership capability within the organization to support both current and future growth.Drive rewards, recognition, and engagement initiatives aligned with company culture and values.Foster a collaborative, accountable, and results‑driven team environment.Required Knowledge & Experience
Minimum 6 years’ experience in a similar senior commercial or country leadership role.At least 3–4 years’ proven people management experience.Strong commercial and operational background within Healthcare, preferably IVD, Diagnostics, Molecular, or related markets.Demonstrated understanding of public healthcare systems, funding mechanisms, and laboratory ecosystems in Mozambique.Experience engaging Ministry of Health, government stakeholders, funders, and regulatory bodies is essential.Proven track record in sales strategy development, execution, and revenue growth.Strong leadership, negotiation, financial analysis, and communication skills.Ability to influence and operate effectively within a matrix and virtual team environment.Qualifications
University degree in Medical Technology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field.Understanding of the Molecular Diagnostics sales process is highly advantageous.Strong business planning, project management, and analytical skills.High level of accountability, agility, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.Experience in finance or strong commercial analytics will be considered an advantage.#LI-DNP #LI-CES
