The German International School of Silicon Valley (GISSV) is a private school from Preschool through 12th Grade with a bilingual German-English educational program. Upon graduation, our students earn a German International Abitur and take part in all qualifications and exams needed for an American High School Diploma. We serve children of all nationalities in the San Francisco Bay Area and are accredited by the German Government and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) as well as the California Association of Independent Schools (CAIS).

We are a school community that makes positive, differentiated, and academic learning and teaching possible. We are looking for a counselor to support students in their social-emotional growth and guide students through identified struggles. A close and supportive collaboration with teachers, parents and our middle school counselor is essential. Qualifications: - Degree in School Counseling, School Psychology, Social Work or related fields. - Experience working with children grades 1-12 in an international/multicultural population - Adept ability to help students process their challenges, plan goals and action steps. - Experience working with parents and teachers to discuss learning, behavioral, familial, and social situation - Experience with counseling in small groups and/or facilitating SEL classes - Experience implementing behavioral management techniques. - Experience with crisis management - Strong work ethic, ability to work autonomously and as a member of a team. - Training and interest in looking through a social justice lens, with particular attention to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. - Willingness to be flexible and accept constructive feedback - Must be authorized to work in the US for any employer - German language skills a plus but not required Essential functions: - Support the students’ social-emotional well-being and mental health. - Listen well to concerns about students’ academic, emotional or social challenges and successes - Develop strategies and plans to address issues and guide students through them - One-on–one counseling with students as needed, and work in small groups - Counsel parents and faculty on topics rel
