Position Summary Responsible for the evaluation, development and implementation of pricing strategies based on current business needs. Prepares cost estimates for manufacturing products designed to support pricing information decisions. Analyzes blueprints, customer specifications, proposals and other documents to prepare time, cost and labor estimates for products applying knowledge of specialized methodologies, techniques, principles or processes. Review data from blueprints, specifications, proposals and other documents as needed and compiles list of types of materials or equipment requirements and prepares itemized lists. Computes cost factors and prepares estimates used for management purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work; preparing bids; selecting vendors or subcontractors; and determining cost effectiveness. Conducts research, special studies and performs competitive pricing analysis and trends to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or effect cost reductions. Consults with other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues. Reviews drawings submitted by customer to determine if part is to be quoted, manufactured, type of material to be used and if applicable, requirements for secondary operations (i.e. heat treat, finish). Work with Manufacturing and Purchasing to determine the best outside vendor for purchased components and secondary operations. Interfaces with other individuals in the organization to obtain support and commitment to the cost estimates. Works with Customer Service, Inside and Outside Sales, Customers, Manufacturing and other departments in providing quotations within guidelines. Organizes and manages a centralized cost estimating database and a formal process to support cost estimating to support pricing information decisions and ensure historical data is utilized. Analyzes completed projects to compare estimated costs to actual costs and determine the reason for any discrepancies. 2 Rev 01/08/2020 Determine the machine group most efficient for manufacture of parts. Provides improvement recommendations to cost estimating procedures to reduce future discrepancies between estimated and actual costs. Identifies cost trends to assist management in cost reduction. Review new part routings/processes for accuracy. Reviews incoming orders, checking for minimum order quantity, correctness of manufacturing routings and receipt of customer purchase order Reviews current routings and manufacturing processes with Quality, Manufacturing, Production Control, Engineering and Sales. Ability to comply with the rules and regulations mandated under the following quality and governmental standards: ISO9001:2000, AS 9100 and NADCAP. Measurements Minimize and prevent discrepancies on quotes Data Management – to support cost estimating, pricing information decisions and ensure historical data is utilized by sales and manufacturing M-1 – Timely update changes in system to production Qualifications-Education/Experience Required: Post High School education or training in engineering sciences – Mechanical, Industrial and Industrial Technology, or equivalent experience. Minimum 3 years product costing experience in a fastener manufacturing environment. Thorough knowledge of manufacturing processes. Strong knowledge of financial costing methods. Working knowledge of PC usage and applicable software packages (i.e. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint etc.) Working knowledge of relevant engineering applications, technical reading and writing. MRP experience preferably M-1. Ability to read blueprints and interpret industrial standards. Preferred: Associate or Bachelor’s Degree Knowledge in fastener and cold-forming manufacturing. Experience in applications engineering a plus.
