Cost Analyst
Job Title: Cost Analyst/Accountant

Location: Groton, CT

Salary Range: $75,000 - $85,000 plus a 10% bonus eligibility.

Schedule: Hybrid Schedule (4 days in office and 1 remote day) – Flexible start time 7:00am or 8:00am

40 Hours a week

 

Position Overview:

A fast-growing, global manufacturing organization is seeking a Senior Cost Analyst to support cost accounting, inventory control, and operational finance activities at a large-scale production facility in Groton, CT. This highly visible role partners closely with Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain,

Procurement, and Finance, serving as a key contributor in driving accurate product costing, margin optimization, and operational decision-making. The

Senior Cost Analyst will play a pivotal role in standard costing, gross margin analysis, budgeting and forecasting, inventory integrity, and continuous

improvement initiatives. This position is ideal for a manufacturing-focused cost accounting professional who thrives in a hands-on environment and enjoys

translating complex financial data into actionable business insights for plant leadership and Senior management.

Key Responsibilities:

Cost Accounting & Financial Analysis

Support monthly close, budgeting, and forecasting processes by preparing, analyzing, and validating cost-related financial data.Oversee standard cost structures, analyze variances, and evaluate gross margin performance across product lines.Administer the annual standard cost update process, including cost build-ups, labor and overhead rates, and product cost allocations.Perform part and job cost analyses, including annual and ad-hoc cost rolls, ensuring alignment with operational activity.Prepare journal entries, perform account reconciliations, and support month-end and year-end close activities.

Inventory & Manufacturing Support

Partner with Operations and Supply Chain on inventory control activities, including cycle counts, physical inventories, audits, and root cause investigations.Analyze WIP, material usage, labor, overhead absorption, scrap, and yield, identifying trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.Collaborate with Engineering to provide accurate costing data for Bills of Materials (BOMs) and routing changes.Support purchasing, materials management, and vendor cost analysis to improve cost visibility and control.

Business Partnership & Continuous Improvement

Act as a trusted financial advisor to Operations and Manufacturing leadership on cost comparisons, make/buy decisions, and operational efficiency initiatives.Monitor key cost drivers and operational KPIs, proactively identifying opportunities for cost reduction and process improvements.Analyze material, labor, overhead, vendor, and raw material cost trends in partnership with Manufacturing, Procurement, and Supply Chain teams.Create and present clear, actionable reports and insights to plant leadership and Senior management.Respond to ad-hoc financial modeling, reporting, and analysis requests from Operations and Finance teams.

Qualifications:

3–5+ years of progressive cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.Strong understanding of financial and managerial accounting principles, including standard costing and variance analysis.Demonstrated ability to analyze complex cost data and communicate insights to non-financial stakeholders.Proven experience partnering cross-functionally with Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Finance.Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
