Job Description
The Cost Accounting Manager will lead the cost accounting function and contribute to broader financial operations. This role involves analyzing, reporting, and controlling manufacturing costs while overseeing key aspects of the general ledger, monthly close processes, and financial reporting. The position plays a critical role in driving operational efficiencies, enhancing financial decision-making, and supporting strategic business objectives.
ResponsibilitiesDevelop, implement, and maintain cost accounting systems, processes, and internal controls.Manage month-end close process, prepare journal entries and reconciliations for cost variances, manufacturing overhead, accruals, and cost allocations.Analyze material and manufacturing labor and overhead costs, monitor cost variances, scrap, write-offs, and other charges, and work with Operations to identify trends, inefficiencies, or opportunities for improvement.Lead the preparation and analysis of standard costs, inventory valuation, and cost of goods sold (COGS).Partner with operations and supply chain teams to track and manage inventory, work-in-progress (WIP), and product costing.Conduct periodic physical inventory audits and cycle counts; reconcile variances.Analyze and report on manufacturing performance and margins, providing actionable insights to management.Support pricing strategies with accurate cost data and profitability analysis.Participate in monthly, quarterly, and year-end closings, including journal entries and account reconciliations.Assist with general ledger maintenance and support financial statement preparation.Prepare accruals, prepaid expense schedules, and fixed asset tracking.Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal controls.Collaborate with auditors during internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations.Manage the Accounts Payable process and authorize payment to suppliers.Essential SkillsBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.5+ years of progressive accounting experience with a strong emphasis in cost accounting; manufacturing experience strongly preferred.Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP, cost accounting principles, and internal controls.Proficient with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Infor) and advanced Excel skills.Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.Proven ability to work cross-functionally and manage multiple priorities.Additional Skills & QualificationsCost accounting experience preferred.ERP Implementation experience is a plus (currently transitioning from QuickBooks to Infor SyteLine).Expertise in ERP systems similar to SAP, Oracle, Netsuite, or Infor is advantageous.Excel expertise for reporting and analysis.Work Environment
The position is 100% onsite with working hours from Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM. There may be some flexibility for the right candidate, but this is not advertised as a hybrid position. The role requires periodic travel to Finksburg, MD to support sister facility operations. The work environment is dynamic and growth-focused, with the current team striving to expand from 75 to 100 employees by the end of the year.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $130000.00 - $135000.00/yr.
