**Your role and responsibilities**
As an Accountant in Accounting Operations, you will be responsible for specific operational areas of Accounting, performing operational accounting activities, and preparing worksheets/reports in accordance with IBM Accounting Principles and Common Desk Procedures. You will work closely with internal parties to collect and analyze financial data, maintain general ledger accounts, and reconcile ledger and system account balances. Your primary responsibilities will include: • Collect and Analyze Financial Data: Collect necessary information from various internal parties and analyze financial data to perform operational accounting activities, preparing worksheets/reports for assigned areas in accordance with IBM Accounting Principles and Common Desk Procedures. • Maintain General Ledger Accounts: Maintain general ledger accounts or segments of accounting records, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting principles. • Reconcile Ledger Balances: Reconcile ledger and other system account balances, performing necessary ledger adjustments on variance or aged items. • Implement Process Change: Implement process changes according to the latest IBM Accounting Principles and Instructions, working with senior Accounting Analysts to update Common Desk Procedures. • Support Audits and Compliance: Provide necessary data and information to internal and external auditors upon request, supporting Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) testing.
**Required technical and professional expertise**
• Exposure to Financial Analysis: Experience working with financial data, analyzing and interpreting financial information to perform operational accounting activities. • Knowledge of Accounting Principles: Familiarity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, IBM Accounting Principles, and related Corporate Accounting Instructions. • General Ledger Maintenance: Experience working with general ledger accounts, maintaining accuracy and compliance with accounting principles. • Financial Systems Reconciliation: Exposure to reconciling ledger and system account balances, identifying and resolving discrepancies. • Compliance and Audit Support: Experience providing data and information to support internal and external audits, including Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) testing.
**Preferred technical and professional experience**
• Fundamental Knowledge of Tax Rules: Familiarity with basic tax rules and their application in accounting operations. • Basic Understanding of SOX Requirements: Exposure to Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) requirements and implications in accounting practices. • Financial Process Automation: Experience working with process automation and simplification in accounting operations.
