Cost Accountant

Job Description

The Cost Accountant is responsible for analyzing manufacturing costs, identifying process constraints, maintaining cost controls, and ensuring accurate product costing. This role plays a critical part in supporting operations and leadership through margin analysis, cost tracing, and financial reporting. In addition, the Cost Accountant serves as a cross‑trained backup for Payroll, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Cash Management, providing exposure and growth opportunities across all areas of Accounting.

Responsibilities

Coordinate physical inventory counts and cycle counts.Update standard costs in the bill of materials.Review standard and actual costs for inaccuracies.Validate the cost of goods sold as part of the month-end close.Establish and maintain cost accounting policies and procedures.Review routers and compare to BOMs for discrepancies.Perform material costing, pricing, and margin analysis to guide operations managers.Support external audits in all areas of Accounting.Conduct in-depth analysis of direct manufacturing and overhead costs to guide operations managers.Review and approve inventory purchases and process related inventory payables.Complete the implementation of the current PCMRP system for full utilization, including process documentation.Participate in the month-end close process, creating journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.Cross-train with team members on payables, receivables, and payroll to ensure backup for all positions.Prepare monthly financial statements.Participate in the budgeting process for sales and related cost management.

Essential Skills

3+ years of accounting/finance experience in a manufacturing environment.BA/BS degree, CPA preferred.Excellent analysis skills.Ability to collaborate with a multi-department team.Experience with MRP and manufacturing.Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience in cost accounting, reconciliation, and month-end processes.Proficiency in job costing, inventory reconciliations, and general ledger management.Knowledge of QuickBooks, financial statement preparation, and forecasting.Understanding of fixed assets and GAAP.

Work Environment

This position is based onsite with flexible start times. Employees must work 8 hours between 7am-6pm. The company is recognized for its innovative product design and manufacturing services, specializing in silicone implant and non-implant grade medical devices.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Woodland, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $33.65 - $38.46/hr.
