How you will make an impact:

The Australia entity within Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking a Cost Accountant III.  This role will provide costing support for the Scoresby DC and New Castle, NSW plant in Australia.  It will closely interact and partner with Operations Teams globally.

What you will do:

Serve as the main inventory accounting contact and business partner for the Scoresby (Melbourne) DC and New Castle, NSW Plant in Australia.Collaborate with the Operations Finance team to analyze cost data to identify productivity opportunities to improve the total cost of products manufactured in the New Castle, NSW plant.Perform weekly reviews of variances to Standard Cost, including WOV, PPV, and Absorption, and translate findings into concrete actions with planning or procurement that get to the root causes.Perform regular tasks relating to the monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial close process, including reconciliations.Provide accounting support for the Australia cycle count program.  Observe cycle counts performed in 1 day twice a quarter.  Prepare cycle count absolute accuracy reports each month, with a goal to become fully cycle count compliant in 2026.Support the Global Annual Inventory Cost Roll by working directly with manufacturing teams to review new standards and their impact on inventory revaluation and updating Labor and Overhead rates for the New Castle, NSW Plant.Maintain data integrity globally for standard costing; this includes cost re-rolls, data maintenance and working closely with IT and Finance to understand and communicate impactSupport the local Operations teams from a cost accounting perspective to help quantify savings for potential projects/initiatives. I.E. purchasing team, warehouse, planning, etc.Become adept in data reporting and analytics from ERP systems, G/L, GLA, SPoT, Cognos and PLN.Cultivate business partnerships with Operations, Planning, Procurement, Supply Chain, and Ops Finance to drive process improvements.Support the management of excess and obsolete inventory for the plants and DCs supported in this role; partner with site finance to provide analysis of at-risk inventorySupport SOX and External auditors by providing clear supporting explanations and documents.

How will you get here:

Education:

Degree in Finance or Accounting.  MBA, CPA/CMA a plus.

Experience:

At least 3-5 years of manufacturing cost accounting or finance experienceExpert-level Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with financial reporting tools
JD Edwards E1 ERP system is a strong preference.Strong knowledge of US GAAP and cost accounting principlesExperience with standard costing, variance analysis, and inventory managementAbility to prepare and analyze complex financial reports and reconciliationsStrong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detailExperience with month-end close processes and journal entries
