This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at the Region IV Office in the Substance Abuse Department.

The mission of a Correctional Service Consultant is to effectively identify, evaluate, and address substance abuse issues among inmates during the reception process. We are committed to providing comprehensive substance abuse program orientation, conducting thorough screenings, and ensuring accurate documentation and placement in appropriate treatment programs. Through collaboration with Classification staff and the provision of motivational and support group activities, we aim to support inmates in their recovery journey. Additionally, we strive to continuously assess and improve the effectiveness of our substance abuse screening and referral processes to enhance the well-being and rehabilitation of our inmate population.

This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

JOB DUTIES:

Administers and evaluates substance abuse screenings for all inmates during the reception process to determine the presence and severity of substance abuse problems. Provides substance abuse program orientation to all inmates in the reception process, except for death row inmates and those with one-day processing and may conduct psycho-social assessments. Works with Classification staff to place inmates in appropriate substance abuse programs and ensures timely and accurate entry of program services and court recommendations into the database. Establishes and maintains each inmate’s substance abuse clinical record and required documentation. Provides motivational groups and recovery/support group activities (AA/NA meetings) for inmates and assists in collecting and analyzing data to evaluate the effectiveness of the substance abuse screening and referral process.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT

The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering.
