Duties Description Assist a Correctional Facility Food Administrator 1 in the management of a food service operation of a facility with 500 beds or more. The responsibility includes, but is not limited to, the supervision of all subordinate food service staff and incarcerated individuals assigned to work in the food service area, and the assurance that the food service operation is in compliance with the policies and procedures established by the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision Division of Nutritional Services and New York State Department of Health State Sanitary Code Subpart 14-1. Additionally, may perform duties normally assigned to subordinate staff, on an as needed basis.
Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).*Either 1. verification of current college enrollment in a program in food management or hotel management with a concentration in food management, leading to an associate’s or bachelor’s degree. You will be restricted on the list until you submit proof of completion of the program to the Department of Civil Service;Or 2. an associate’s degree in food management or hotel management with a concentration in food management;Or 3. 60 college semester credit hours including 30 credit hours in courses directly related to food service or involving direct hands-on cooking courses;***Or 4. a bachelor’s degree in food management;Or 5. a bachelor’s degree in dietetics, hotel management, or nutrition, with 15 college semester credit hours in food management.*For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.At a future date, it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. Whileserving permanently in an NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
