LOCATION: Tempe Corps 

SUPERVISOR:  Corps Officer

STATUS:  FT 40hrs/week-Flex Schedule

QUALIFICATIONS:

HS Diploma required College Coursework and/or degree preferred Must be 21 years of age or older Genuine and deepened Christian character Emotional, mental and physical stamina Loyal participant of a ministry team Ability to work well and cultivate trust with other people in a growing congregation Ability to represent The Salvation Army in a positive manner all times Impeccable personal conduct and appearance Salvation Army Senior Soldier in good standing Experience with Salvation Army Christmas Programs Knowledgeable of Salvation Army Policies and Procedures  Capable of making independent judgments with regard to volunteers, employees and soldiers Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook proficient Working knowledge of integrated database applications and ability to use new software programs with basic training Ability to pass a criminal background check Must have a current DL with a clean driving record and the ability to pass TSA Fleet Safety training.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Corps Program Responsibilities

Assist the Corps Officers as needed with Corps Programs including, but not limited to: Sunday School classes, Sunday Morning Worship services, fellowship times, visitation, Senior Soldiers’ classes, visitation, Bible studies, Men’s’ Fellowship and camp, recruiting soldiers, recruit congregation members for volunteer positions, transportation, and Corps Reviews. Provide support for and, in most cases, attend Divisional and Territorial programs such as Deeper Life camp meeting, Congresses, etc. (If the Youth Ministries Director position has been filled) Provide support to the Youth Ministries Director and Youth Programs as needed and time available. Coordinate with the Youth Ministries Director and clearly define in writing who has what responsibilities and when. Provide support to other Outreach Programs and Adult Programs as needed. Coordinate with the Corps Officer and volunteers to clearly define in writing who has what responsibilities and when. 

 Social Services Responsibilities

Assist the Corps Officer with supervising and providing for the smooth operation of the Social Service department. Assist the caseworkers as needed and time available with casework, data input, receiving donations, and other items as needed. Coordinate with the caseworkers concerning vacations and other time off and fill in during these times as caseworker   Assist with audio/video equipment as operated by computer in the chapel, and other areas for programs hosted by the corps. Assist as needed with the production of various member directories, flyers, Sunday Bulletins, etc. Vehicles Must have a driver’s license and be able to drive a Salvation Army vehicles as defined by The Salvation Army’s driver safety standards and training. To be responsible for and coordinate with the Corps Officers and janitorial staff for the fueling, cleaning, and arranging maintenance and repairs. Corps Maintenance/Janitorial Make every effort to keep the Corps building clean and in good repair, especially during and after programs. (If a maintenance staff person is employed) Assist the janitorial staff as needed with special projects.

Christmas/Seasonal

Develop qualification guidelines and Corps policies for Christmas assistance clients. Solicit suggestions from the Corps Officers and staff. Along with the Corps Officers, attend Divisional planning and coordinating meetings. Coordinate with staff and the Corps Officers on all phases of the Seasonal Programs. Assist with contacting store managers regarding kettle placement. Develop and implement the application process. Coordinate with the Office Manager in contacting, recruiting, and scheduling of volunteers for the malls and toyshop. Manage and implement the receipt of, transportation, sorting, and distribution of toys, clothing, etc. Coordinate the conclusion; update the brief, and reporting of statistics with staff and the Corps Officers. Coordinate with the Corps Officers to provide for special circumstances and/or problems. Coordinate the communication of gratitude with staff and the Corps Officers to the volunteers.

 Other duties may be assigned above and beyond this job description to assist in the training process and goal achieving in order to meet the requirements/expectations set forth by THQ Command/DHQ Command/Candidate Secretary.  These responsibilities may take place during official working hours, but may extend beyond established working hours to accommodate the necessary requirements (this can include additional goals established by the Candidate Secretary above and beyond the standard goals set by THQ Command).   

 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Qualified individuals must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and reach with hands and arms on a continuous basis. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must have the ability to operate telephone, a desktop or laptop computer, as well as the ability to access and produce information from a computer, and to understand written information.

 WORK SCHEDULE: The work schedule is to include one scheduled day off, and one light day (additional time off is at the Corps Officer’s discretion and in keeping with Salvation Army policy). A light day means if all work is complete and there are no special events, outings, Christmas efforts, Corps, Divisional, and/or Territorial events, the day is off. For most weeks, Friday is the scheduled day off, and Saturday is the light day. There is some flexibility according to need.

 UNIFORMS: For Sundays the minimum requirement is white shirt and dark blue or black pants, black shoes. For weekday youth activities and office wear, polo type shirt with The Salvation Army Shield or Crest is required. Some Divisional and/or Territorial events will require fatigue uniform with epilates and/or tunic. These are required for Sundays, and Divisional/Territorial events.

PROTECT THE MISSION: All persons working with children must attend and satisfactorily complete Sacred Boundaries E-learning as well as other PTM training sessions.   A background check is required, and in some cases a fingerprint clearance card may have to be acquired.
