Corporate Tax Accountant I - Sales/Use Tax
Responsibilities Job Summary - Corporate Tax is responsible for managing an organization’s tax strategy, compliance, and planning to ensure adherence to tax laws and regulations while optimizing the company’s tax position. Professionals in this job family play a key role in minimizing tax liabilities, managing risk, and supporting business decisions through accurate tax analysis and reporting. As a Sales and Use Tax Accountant I, you will be part of a dynamic, fast-paced environment responsible for managing the preparation of a variety of sales and miscellaneous tax compliance filings, journal entries, and tax general ledger account reconciliations. Key Responsibilites and Essential Functions - Prepare and review accurate corporate tax returns (Sales & Use, Heavy Vehicle, Fuel, Mixed Beverage, etc.) Assist in developing and implementing tax strategies to minimize liabilities Support in internal and external audits Analyze financial data Maintain records of tax filings and payments Research tax laws and regulations to advise on solutions Reconcile tax data to assist with filings Responsible for supporting the development and use of numerous tax accrual systems/processes to ensure tax is being properly charged or accrued Provides support to internal teams (Procurement/Store/E-commerce accounting, Construction, Legal) across the company to ensure accurate sales and use tax is applied to transactions. Research and create sales tax exemption certificates, as requested by the business Oversee the Tax Calendar application to guarantee timely filings and monitoring compliance deadlines Gathers information and prepares Corporate Tax performance metrics Uses tax research tools and participates in webinars and other training to enhance tax knowledge Manages out of state compliance requirements including registrations, annual reports, extensions, notification responses, and more Develops strong working relationships with colleagues across the company Qualification and Key Requirements – Intermediate individual contributor in a professional role. Works independently within an established framework, receiving detailed instructions only on new assignments. Possesses specialized knowledge and skills required to perform the role. Applies practical knowledge, learned theories, concepts, principles, and methodologies to difficult but non-complex, conventional assignments. Majority of work efforts are focused on meeting objectives related to implementation or delivery of processes, programs, and/or policies. Builds productive internal and external working relationships. Bachelor's degree or additional role-relevant experience. 2+ years of relevant experience preferred. Experience in corporate tax or public accounting Understanding of tax principals and accounting practices Understanding of corporate tax regulations Working knowledge with tax software and Microsoft Excel Attention to detail and analytical skills Ability to communicate in team environment Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field CPA certification preferred
