This position is located in Boise only. Summary: The Idaho Commission of Pardons and Parole is currently accepting applications to fill a Hearing Specialist position. The successful candidate will be responsible for taking minutes for various Commission hearings. They will also enter and verify decisions and database entries and explain hearing procedures/appeal rights to external stakeholders and members of the public as needed. They will prepare cases for analysis and assist in training staff in appropriate hearing conduct, preparation of information for hearings, and how to record minutes and prepare action taken reports. This position also provides support to the Hearing Manager during Parole Hearing Sessions. Responsibilities: + Perform a variety of administrative duties to enable the Commission and Hearing Manager to function effectively. + Professionally interact with members of the public. + Perform functions such as, taking and editing hearing minutes, recording hearing decisions, gathering information, and preparing cases for Commissioner review. + Interpret, apply, and implement policies, procedures, laws, and administrative rules. + Train staff in appropriate hearing conduct and the preparation of information for hearings. + May coordinate and act as a liaison with other agencies, concerned parties, or sections within the Department regarding appeals/hearings processes. + Provide support to the Hearing Manager as needed. Minimum Qualifications: + Some knowledge of legal terminology. Typically gained by actual work, college, or volunteer experience using this terminology. + Some knowledge of administrative law proceedings. This is typically gained by experience in a work, college or volunteer setting clearly showing how what was listed was required. + Some knowledge of automated record systems. This is typically gained by one-year work experience using these systems. + Experience researching and interpreting laws. This is typically gained by one year of experience reviewing for compliance with laws, regulations or policies and procedures and explaining discrepancies or explaining to others how laws, regulations or policies apply to specific situations as a regular part of the job. Specialty Requirements: + Good knowledge of computer applications. Typically gained through successful completion of computer applications courses of 20 or more hours and at least one year of applied work experience or approximately two years of experience using three or more commonly used computer applications in a job setting. + Experience taking hearing minutes and composing and editing other complex documents. Typically, this background is gained through two or more years of experience where a major responsibility was composing official correspondence, reports, research papers and other complex documents. + Ability to keyboard/type at the rate of 50 net wpm or more. Desirable Qualifications: + Knowledge and experience using Atlas. + Knowledge and experience using Webex, Zoom, and Teams.
