Job Overview:

Under direction, plans, organizes, coordinates, and directs day-to-day activities related to the surgical and clinical activities within the Department of Surgery. The secondary purpose of the Surgical scheduler position is to provide administrative assistance to the providers. Surgical schedulers coordinate administrative task, scheduling and other patient care issues as directed by the physicians, APP, Pratice Manager, and Director of Administration.

Qualifications:

Required:

High School DiplomaA least 1 year of surgical scheduling experience requiredDemonstrates professionalism and strong customer service skills required

Scheduling Requirements:

Shift-8:30am-4:30pmMonday-FridayFull Time/Day

Essential Functions:

Understand the process for precertification/preauthorization from insurance companies for imaging and proceduresUnderstand basic principle of insurance coverageObtain insurance information, demographic information and authorizations as neededCoordinates surgeries for Department of SurgeryCommunicates with Physician/s per their schedulesReview patient history and medications to ensure accuracy in EMR and verify medical and or specialist clearance needed prior to surgeryCall patients to advise of time frame for surgeryCommunicates with patients to coordinate surgery day, arrange for pre-op testing, arrange pre/post op visits as per individual physicians protocolContacts referring physician, provides surgery information and any pre-op orders needed for H&P and/or medical clearance,Interact with clinical staff as neededEnsures all pre-op orders are created and faxed to appropriate facility/s and or sent to patient, including labs, EKG, chest x-ray, urine testing , and/or communicates with patient prior to surgery to go over consents, surgical estimates, insurance authorizations

responsible for collecting monies due prior to surgery

Completes all SSI disability forms and Letters of Medical Necessity for insurance information, as well as, explain benefits to patient preparing for surgeryResponds professionally and pleasantly to telephone messages,Obtains adequate/accurate information and delegate information appropriatelyMaintains communication with physicians, mid- level providers, patients, hospitals, insurance companies,All other functions as needed
