Job Responsibilities:Respond to patient telephone inquiries and written correspondence in a timely manner, in accordance with departmental service standards.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of EPIC, third-party billing practices, payer reimbursement regulations, and HIPAA compliance requirements.
Document all account activity in a clear and organized narrative format, using Excel spreadsheets and other tracking tools.
Assist patients with billing inquiries and provide follow-up—by phone or in person—within five business days of initial contact.
Act as a liaison between patients, provider offices, and insurance companies to resolve complex billing issues.
Verify insurance eligibility and allocate accurate coverage details to accounts to ensure proper billing to third-party payers.
Analyze patient accounts to identify billing discrepancies and route problem accounts to appropriate internal departments for resolution.
Assist patients and families in applying for financial assistance and coordinate payment arrangements based on account balances.
Prepare itemized statements and other required patient billing documentation upon request.
Generate and maintain financial and operational reports, including payment plan summaries, unallocated payment logs, and EPIC work list updates.
Review account credits and request patient refunds when appropriate, ensuring compliance with internal policies.
Coordinate with collection agencies to manage bad debt accounts and support recovery of outstanding balances.
Position Qualifications:Minimum Required:
High school diploma or equivalent
One year of prior office/clerical experience
Experience working with CPT and ICD-9/10 Terminology
Preferred:
Prior experience in hospital third party billing practices and telephone contact
Experience with data base software, including Microsoft Products (Excel)
