Unlock your potential! **Job Summary and Qualifications** To identify, assess and control environmental/safety hazards at facilities for in‑patients, visitors, and personnel through the implementation of a network‑wide safety management program and through the research, development and update of safety policies and procedures, consultation with administration, department supervisors and staff, in‑service education, investigation of accidents and incidents, and regulatory compliance under the direction of the network's Safety Committee. To ensure the network's compliance with safety management and other environment of care functions as defined by JCAHO, CARF, OSHA, EPA, FDA, FDOH and other regulatory agencies. Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas: Serves as the Facility Safety Coordinator. Provides consultation regarding safety issues upon request to any department, committee, or task force. Serves as Environment of Care Committee Coordinator under the direction of the Facilities Director, with overall responsibility for development, implementation, and monitoring of safety management. Reports to the Director of Facilities Mgmt regarding safety and health related projects and programs including the status of work in progress. Monitors facility personnel for compliance with regulatory requirements and adherence to Hospital standards for safety and environmental protection. Develops, evaluates and implements: Organization-wide policies and procedures, goals and objectives, and standards of work for the Environment of Care Program and Safety Program. Investigates incidents of employee injury and other reported safety events via occurrence reporting to determine potential causes and to plan corrective actions for the prevention of recurrence. Directs immediate actions required to facilitate responses to health, safety and environmental emergencies for the protection of life and property. Works closely with other departments and administration. Negotiates priorities, plans work schedules, makes job assignments, orders needed materials, supplies and parts. Recommends use of outside specialty contractors as circumstances indicate. Coordinates and participates in the hazard surveillance program (hazard surveillance walks). Assists the hospital in the maintenance of state-of-the-art developments in safety management. Communicates to the Director of Facilities Management, potential and/or actual problems or concerns involving life safety codes, federal, state and local regulations, and/or accrediting body standards. Assumes responsibility for and participates in continuing education program to develop self-knowledge and growth. To establish, implement and supervise the activities of the Safety Management Program by: Periodic review and update of all safety management policies and procedures to include, but not be limited to: emergency management plan, hazardous materials and waste management plan, and fire safety and evacuation plan to comply with JCAHO, Medicare, OSHA, and other regulatory agencies; Coordinate and implement fire and emergency management drills in accordance with current regulatory and hospital standards; Serve as chairperson of the network’s safety committee on a monthly basis or as may be needed to address special problems; Supervise the expedient recall of all products upon notification from regulating agencies, manufacturers or other sources; Coordinate hazardous materials and waste management program in accordance with current regulatory and network standards; Conduct department hazard surveillance surveys in accordance with current standards and assure timely and appropriate departmental response to identified deficiencies. To serve as consultant to all network departments on safety management issues; and to serve as the liaison between the safety committee and other hospital related committees by: Maintain an effective working relationship and close communication with nursing personnel, support services personnel, and all other departments regarding safety management issues; Participate in various committees to include, but not limited to: performance improvement, product evaluation, radiation safety, and safety sub-committees; Report the activities of the safety committee to the Hospital’s Performance Improvement Steering Counsel and medical staff as required; advise network personnel regarding safety management policies and procedures, and regulatory compliance; Maintain knowledge of new developments in safety and hazard control through review of current literature, attendance at pertinent conferences and seminars and membership in professional organizations. To provide in-service education related to safety management to all network personnel. Develop and present departmental-specific and/or general educational programs related to safety management based on an identified need, requirement, or area of interest; Present other safety-related in-service programs as necessary. Serves as the facility Safety Coordinator appointed by the CEO and Board of Trustees. Demonstrates knowledge and is able to identify each patient’s age-specific needs to promote a safe environment needed by the patient group. Maintains compliance with JCAHO, federal, state and local standards and regulations. Obeys safety policies and uses lift equipment, maxi slides and assistance from coworkers when necessary Follows established guidelines for reporting a significant medical error or unanticipated outcome in the patient’s care which results in patient harm. Assures that hourly rounding occurs on all assigned patients. Knowledge of and utilization of chain of command. What qualifications you will need: + Technical degree preferred + Relevant experience 3-5 years + High School Graduate / GED + Vocational School Graduate, or High School Graduate / GED HCA Florida JFK Hospital was named in honor of our 35 th president.
