**Description** **Description:** Coordinate all grading within the cooler area and supervise those employees performing those duties. • Provide a safe working environment for employees. • Insure product quality for all products leaving the cooler area. • Make sure all cattle are sorted properly into lots. • Tag carcasses and send them down to cooler area so fabrication can begin to process the cattle. • Pull cattle aside in the cooler area to be re-graded by government officials when disagreements occur with plant and government officials. • Direct preparation of all personnel paperwork for transfer chain, carcass load-out and management support employee in the cooler area. • Work tasks fluctuate depending on how well each area of the plant is running. • Run monthly group meetings with hourly employees to keep the abreast with relevant plant and department issues. • Interview employees for all vacant management & management support positions. • Train all management support personnel. • Perform evaluations on all management personnel employees annually. • Directly involved in disciplinary procedures with employees ranging from verbal warnings to terminations. Working Conditions • Physical demands of this position include a great deal of walking and occasional lifting of carcasses. • Potential hazards include falling carcasses, hooks and trolleys. • Work area has many slippery floors and is very noisy. • Temperature is very cold in the cooler area. • Employee will typically work 55-60 hours per week M-F with some Saturday work if necessary. Education Requirements (if applicable) • Minimum High School diploma or GED equivalent. • College experience in animal science beneficial, but substitutable with work experience. Experience • Minimum 7-10 years background experience in a packinghouse. Special Skills • People skills • Communication skills • Patience with employees • Bilingual important, but not mandatory as long as translators are in area. Relationships Internal: • Mostly verbal communication with cooler, fabrication, and slaughter areas. External: • Company procurement coordinators.
