Scope of Position:
Under supervision of the Corps Officer, the function of the cook is to provide meals, create weekly menus and maintain a clean kitchen as well as maintaining good public relations and giving prompt, courteous assistance as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
Have a current Food Handlers Certification issued by the Oregon Department of Human Services. 3 years paid or volunteer experience directly related to specific responsibilitiesPreferred Qualifications:
Associate Degree in Culinary Arts Five years paid or volunteer experience directly related to the specific responsibilities. Oregon Restaurant Association Food Handler Certification.General Statement of Duties:
Under supervision of the Corps Officer, responsible for participating in the team effort required to maintain the efficient operation of The Salvation Army in Umatilla County.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must know and understand the function of the kitchen and all the equipment used within the kitchen. Must have the ability to read all descriptions and instructions of any and all chemicals used both inside and outside. Is expected to have proper appearance and hygiene. Must be able to provide training and supervision in preparation and serving to the volunteers. Must maintain the kitchen and food to the state and county inspection guidelines. Detail oriented. Self-starter and team player with a customer service mindset. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain poise under pressure. Ability and willingness to keep information confidential. Must keep all activities observed confidential.Responsibilities:
Perform duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor including: Creating monthly menu Prepare meals Serve Meals Rotate Stock Cleaning Kitchen and Dining Area Cleaning storage areas. Picking up donations (Hospital, KFC, Papa Murphy’s, CAPECO & others as needed.) Other duties as assignedResponsible for maintaining good public relations and giving prompt, courteous assistance as needed.
Responsible for maintaining assigned area of work for cleanliness and neatness including: Sweeping and mopping kitchen and dining area. Breaking down of boxes and putting them into recycling bin. Cleaning of shelves and racks Other duties as assigned. There should never be times when you have nothing to do. You are responsible to keep yourself busy at all times.Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis Ability to grasp, push, and pull objects Ability to reach overhead. Must be able to lift 50 poundsImportant Characteristics:
