Position Summary:

The Conventional Machinist operates the tooling manufacturing resources, monitoring the quality of the fixtures produced. The position builds tooling and will operate production resources as needed. The Conventional Machinist participates as a member of the manufacturing and tooling team, providing input on new processes and process improvements for the tooling design. The Conventional Machinist may provide training and guidance to lower level machinist employees.

Reporting Relationship:

The Conventional Machinist will report to the Machine Shop Manager

Schedule:

Monday-Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Ensures scheduled resource is operating in a safe manner, following all safety protocolsOperates the tooling manufacturing resources, monitoring the quality of the fixtures manufacturedProvide input on building tooling support of new manufacturing processes and troubled manufacturing processes as required to ensure customer product meets or exceeds all requirementsBuilds tooling and on occasion operates the production of scheduled manufacturing resources, monitoring the quality of product and tooling manufacturedEnsures the schedule cycle time to manufacture a tool or fixture versus actual time taken to manufacture a tool or fixture is under set cycle time or meets scheduled cycle timesEnsure cutters use in manufacturing the product of sharp and cutting correctly and makes certain that cutters are changed out before cutting life expiresContinually keeps assigned work area and resources clean and organizedWorks as a team member, meeting professional standards of cooperation, communication, and appearanceProvides occasional guidance, coaching, and training to lower level machinist employees

Required Skills:

Ability to pass in-house manufacturing testExperienced and fluent at using hand held quality control inspection tools such as micrometers, calipers, bore gages, depth gages, radius gages, height gages, and sine platesKnowledgeable in trigonometry and with understanding of the formulas for calculating set speeds and feeds used in operating conventional mills and/or lathesFluent in interpreting aerospace blueprints, parts lists, and assembly drawingsSolid understanding of manipulating formulas used in manufacturing assigned tooling and fixturesSkilled in the set-up and operations of conventional lathes and mills in a safe and productive mannerSelf-motivated with an ability to work alone or in a team environmentWork across departments to meet product quality standards efficientlyFollow instructions given by the director of manufacturing, their immediate manager, or lead, or by a senior machinist and carry them out correctlyInterpret the instructions given and apply experience and training throughout the course of the day for each production job assignedRead and comprehend basic instructions and write simple correspondenceRead and interpret the English language

Required Experience:

Minimum of 2-years of experience manufacturing aerospace tooling on conventional mills and lathes

Level of Education:

Employees will receive 120 hours paid time off every year. Employees will also receive 10 paid holidays.
