Controls Technician
Job Title: Controls TechnicianJob Description As a Controls Technician, you will independently troubleshoot connections to HVAC equipment and controllers, identifying and resolving faults in control and monitoring systems. You will execute full startup and commissioning of BMS service projects, verifying sequences of operation are met and documented. Your role will involve modifying and enhancing wire sheet logic and control programming to optimize system performance, and performing field-level integration of building control systems while verifying network/data integrity. Responsibilities + Install and configure control system components such as sensors, actuators, and control panels, understanding device function and application. + Perform and guide commissioning processes, including validation of field wiring, sensor calibration, and programming verification. + Collaborate with BMS Remote Support staff to ensure accurate user-facing controls visuals and real-time data. + Support efforts to maintain BMS graphical consistency across customer deployments and platforms. + Provide live, professional support in sensitive environments such as operational data centers. + Communicate job status and technical updates to customers clearly and professionally. + Lead or support customer training sessions focused on BMS operation and preventive maintenance strategies. + Recommend necessary repairs or system improvements based on technical findings and customer needs. + Support Service Engineers by executing defined field scopes and relaying real-time findings. + Provide feedback to engineering teams for redlines and updates of system drawings and as-built documentation. + Mentor and guide junior technicians by providing remote or on-site task support and troubleshooting direction. + Demonstrate leadership in task delegation and prioritization during field activities. Essential Skills + 2+ years of field experience in BMS, building automation, or HVAC controls. + Ability to independently commission, troubleshoot, and program control systems. + Proficiency with Tridium/Niagara or equivalent open-platform control systems. + Strong understanding of HVAC systems, control sequences, and integration strategies. + Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and control schematics. + High level of independence in fieldwork, problem-solving, and decision-making. + Proficiency in editing and building wire sheet logic and control sequences. + Strong documentation practices and attention to detail. + Effective verbal and written communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences. + Comfortable working in live, occupied, and potentially sensitive environments. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Must be willing to travel at least 100% of the year, both locally and out of state. Work Environment This position involves 100% local and domestic travel to client sites, with no company vehicle provided. Travel from your house to project sites is considered a commute, and mileage reimbursement may be provided for significant travel between multiple sites in a day. The work is primarily on construction and service sites, focusing 85% on service and 15% on new installations. Sub-contractors are hired for wire pulling and panel installation, and no heavy lifting is required. When not traveling, you will work from a home office, performing remote tasks. Projects are typically small and defined, such as starting up new equipment at existing sites, commissioning, and setting up points and graphics. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.86 - $52.88/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
