Controls & Governance - Global Process Owner

Role Overview

A new role, the Global Process Owner (GPO) is responsible for the governance, development and enhancement of the end-to-end Controls and Governance (C&G) global process. The GPO must collaborate with process stakeholders across the organisation, to ensure effective and efficient process operations and identification and leverage of cross-process synergies. The GPO also monitors process performance and prioritises and drives process-related investment decisions and implementation. Additionally, the GPO is accountable for ensuring process compliance with all relevant legislation and company procedures.

We are seeking a seasoned Global Process Owner (GPO) for Controls & Governance to lead the definition, implementation, and oversight of financial governance frameworks across finance processes. This role will be responsible for establishing a strong internal control environment aligned with global compliance and governance frameworks, including SOX, operational risk management, policy adherence, and process integrity across key finance towers. The GPO will serve as the anchor point for financial risk management, control standardisation, and audit readiness globally helping to safely deliver change and run Finance as it is transformed.

Role Responsibilities

Process Leadership & Strategy

Transition from existing regional Controls and Governance model to global standardised operating structure

Define the ownership of key activities across finance to ensure accountability is clear, including through key month end close, annual statutory and regulatory reporting cycles

Able to help the Finance Function safely change by balancing risk and reward of changes with appropriate monitoring so we can explain how the results are accurate

Own and define the global controls and governance framework for finance processes, ensuring compliance with SOX, and adherence to internal audit findings

Consider broader Risk framework across organisation, working closely with Risk and Internal Audit, to challenge where appropriate

Champion Control and Governance process mindset across finance, whilst acting as the key decision-maker for Controls and Governance process changes, escalations, and priorities

Promote process and control oriented culture which monitors and meets the needs of the business through process excellence and improvement

Line management of a global team across time zones and jurisdictions

Standardisation & Optimisation

Oversee and monitor compliance with global end-to-end process standards, policies, and controls for Controls and Governance, while efficiently and appropriately allowing for nuanced local requirements

Define standard control across finance processes, ensuring consistency in design and execution

Maintain global risk and control matrices and ensure control owners are trained, accountable, and supported

Identify opportunities for automation of control monitoring, such as system-based reconciliations, exception reporting, and audit trail logging

Technology & Systems Enablement

Collaborate with IT to embed controls in ERP platforms, reconciliation tools, and workflow tools

Build on existing systems and disparate ways of working to identify the best tool for the job

Define requirements for governance dashboards and risk heat maps to visualise control effectiveness and areas requiring remediation

Compliance & Controls

Ensure compliance with global regulations, audit standards (e.g. new FRC internal control requirements), and internal policies by overseeing the design, implementation, and monitoring of internal controls

Build dashboarding and summaries of key controls by process and proactively raise challenges and issues

Performance Management

Define KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) related to control health, tracking compliance certification, control self-assessments, and training completion rates across teams

Publish dashboards and scorecards to track control performance and issue resolution

Stakeholder Engagement

Partner with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment on control expectations and responsibilities

Lead governance councils and forums to review and approve changes to the control environment

Change Management & Training

Lead global training initiatives on finance controls and governance processes, ensuring effective knowledge transfer across the organisation

Drive continuous improvement in controls through regular assessments and updates to policies and practices

Experience / Competences

Essential

Extensive years of experience in internal controls, audit, or risk management roles within finance operations or a regulated industry.

Experience in building frameworks, policy governance programs, and audit engagement management.

Experience with managing at C-suite level

Experience leading a team

Proven experience leading global process ownership, transformation, or standardisation initiatives in a complex, international environment

Solid understanding of financial control models across global entities

Desired

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field; MBA, Qualified Accountant (ACA, CIMA, ACCA or equivalent) or professional certification (e.g., CPA) is a plus

Proficient in ERP platforms (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Workday), financial planning (OneStream) and/or automation tools (e.g., Coupa, Alteryx, Ariba, Anaplan, Power BI) along with control & workflow tools (Trintech and Workiva)

Lean Six Sigma certification or similar process improvement credentials
