Job Description

Work Arrangement

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren Tech Center three times per week, at minimum.

The Role

We are seeking talented Controls Engineers to design, develop, and optimize automation and control systems that drive the future of automotive manufacturing at GM. In this role, you’ll work on diverse automation projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams to launch new programs, integrate cutting-edge technologies, and support world-class manufacturing operations.

This is an exciting opportunity to apply your expertise in PLC/HMI programming, robotics, and industrial automation to improve system reliability, efficiency, and safety across high-tech production environments.

What You’ll Do

Lead new program implementation, including controls/robotics design, equipment builds, run-off, and plant installation.

Design, integrate, and optimize PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems for automated equipment.

Procure and launch capital projects from concept through commissioning, ensuring delivery to cost, quality, and timing targets.

Troubleshoot and resolve control system issues to minimize downtime and support ongoing production.

Collaborate with manufacturing, maintenance, and engineering teams to deliver continuous improvements in quality, safety, and efficiency.

Stay current on emerging automation technologies, including AI, robotics, vision systems, and industrial networks, and apply them to enhance manufacturing processes.

Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards (OSHA, NFPA 79, IEC, UL).

Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced Controls Engineers.

Support senior leadership with program status updates and technical reporting.

Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications)

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Controls Engineering, or related field.

At least 1 year of experience in industrial automation or controls engineering; 3+ years preferred.

Strong proficiency in PLC programming (Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, or equivalent).

Experience with HMI/SCADA development (FactoryTalk View, WinCC, Ignition, or similar).

Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus).

Familiarity with electrical panel design, wiring standards, and troubleshooting.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

Fanuc robot programming expertise.

CNC, conveyor, and high-volume automation experience.

Cognex or Matrox vision system programming experience.

Experience with GM Global Common Controls Architecture.
