Sage
Controls Consultant
Job Description:
Ready to take the next step in your career in risk, audit, or compliance? As a Controls Consultant at Sage, you’ll be right at the heart of how we manage risk and strengthen our internal controls across a global tech business. Whether you're early in your career or exploring a new path, this is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience, learn from seasoned professionals, and contribute to meaningful projects that have real impact. You'll build a strong foundation in governance, risk, and compliance—all while growing your skills in a supportive and forward-thinking environment.
This role is hybrid and based in our Newcastle office, 3 days a week.
Key Responsibilities:
You’ll be part of a collaborative and supportive team, with a focus on learning, contribution, and development.
Typical responsibilities include:
You'll be joining a supportive and collaborative team that values learning, growth, and making a meaningful contribution. In this role, you'll help test key business controls to ensure they're working effectively, assist in preparing reports and dashboards to share insights with management, and support the investigation of any control issues or process hiccups. You’ll also learn how to apply internal control frameworks in real business situations and work closely with risk and control owners to understand their processes and suggest improvements. As part of Sage’s “Three Lines of Defence” model, you’ll collaborate with colleagues across compliance, audit, and operations, while contributing to projects that strengthen governance, boost efficiency, or enhance regulatory readiness. Throughout, you’ll be supported by experienced team members and given more responsibility as your skills and confidence grow.
What are we looking for?
We’re open to people from a variety of backgrounds—whether you’ve worked in audit, finance, compliance, operations, or you’ve studied a relevant subject and are excited to gain hands-on experience. Ideally, you’ll have around one to three years of relevant experience, or equivalent training, and a genuine interest in how businesses manage risk and maintain strong controls. We’re looking for someone with an analytical mindset, good attention to detail, and a practical approach to problem-solving. You should be comfortable managing your time, prioritising tasks, and working proactively. Strong communication skills and the confidence to engage with different teams are important, as is some familiarity with tools like Microsoft Excel for analysing data. Most importantly, we’re looking for someone eager to learn and grow alongside a supportive team.
It would be a bonus (but not essential) if you have:
· Awareness of internal control frameworks (e.g. COSO) or regulations such as Sarbanes-Oxley
· Experience in testing, documenting or reviewing controls
· An interest in pursuing professional qualifications (e.g. CISA, CRISC, ACA, CIA)
What's in it for you?
• Generous bonuses and pension scheme: Up to 8% matched pension contribution plus 2% top-up by Sage.
• 25 days of paid annual leave with the option to buy up to another 5 days
• 8 bank holiday days
• Paid 5 days yearly to volunteer through our Sage Foundation
• 50% income protection
• Holiday buy + sell
• Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage
• Work away scheme for up to 10 weeks a year
• Ongoing training and professional development
• Hybrid working
• Healthy Mind app membership
