Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Controller to lead and manage our financial operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting principles and regulations. The ideal candidate has experience in accounting, particularly within construction or project-based industries, and possess the ability to mentor and develop a high-performing team.
Responsibilities
Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes with accurate and timely reporting.Ensure compliance with GAAP, FAR accounting principles, and compensation-related regulations.Oversee multi-state tax filings, payroll compliance, and workers’ compensation requirements.Develop and maintain standardized accounting and month-end close procedures with strong internal controls.Build and manage rolling 12-week cash flow forecasts to support proactive financial planning.Drive year-end financial projections and coordinate tax planning with external partners.Supervise, mentor, and develop a six-person accounting team.Oversee AP, AR, billing, and project-based revenue cycles.Partner with project managers on WIP schedules, job costing, and project profitability.Prepare and present financial reports, KPIs, and variance analyses to leadership.Lead budgeting and forecasting processes across departments.Support external audits and lender reporting requirements.Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve ERP utilization (Deltek Ajera).Essential Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.7–12 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within engineering, architecture, construction, or other project-based industries.Strong understanding of revenue recognition, percentage-of-completion, and WIP (work-in-progress) accounting.Experience with multi-state tax and multi-state payroll.Ability to supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff.Proficiency in Deltek Ajera or a comparable project-based ERP system.Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal controls.Experience managing month-end and year-end close processes.Ability to analyze financial performance and present insights to leadership.Comfortable working cross-functionally with operations, project managers, and executive leadership.Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing deadlines.High level of integrity, accuracy, and attention to detail.Additional Skills & Qualifications
CPA or MBA (Finance).Experience working within S-Corporation tax structures.Familiarity with FAR (Federal Acquisition Regulation) accounting principles.Experience in professional services or engineering consulting environments.Experience supporting external audits and banking relationships.Prior involvement in process improvement or ERP optimization initiatives.Work Environment

Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, IN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $52.88 - $60.01/hr.
