Our client, a growing construction company in Johnson County with a 15+ year track record and a flexible, family‑friendly culture, is seeking an experienced Controller to support their next phase of growth. The company currently generates around $70M in revenue and plans to scale to roughly $150M in the coming years.
This role is ideal for a player‑coach who can manage a small accounting team today and help build out the function as the company expands. The Controller will have a strong hand in improving processes, strengthening financial reporting, and partnering with leadership on strategic initiatives.
Candidates must have prior Controller‑level experience and construction accounting expertise (WIP, % of completion, job costing). A Bachelor’s in Accounting is required; CPA and/or public accounting experience is preferred.
Compensation includes a $120K–$140K base salary, bonus potential around 50%, 75% employer‑paid health insurance, a 3% 401(k) match, and an additional 3% bonus opportunity, all within a results‑focused, non‑clock‑watching environment.
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Controller with strong financial leadership, analytical ability, and organizational skills. This role will oversee core accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, budgeting, and compliance, while supporting ongoing operational and strategic initiatives within a growing organization.
Responsibilities
+ Oversee all accounting operations, financial policies, internal controls, and reporting systems.
+ Guide financial decision‑making by monitoring and enforcing accounting standards and procedures.
+ Safeguard company assets through proper controls, audits, and risk‑management processes.
+ Lead budgeting and forecasting, including data collection, variance analysis, and recommendations.
+ Provide timely and accurate financial reporting, special analyses, and trend insights for leadership.
+ Ensure compliance with applicable financial, tax, and regulatory requirements.
+ Supervise accounting staff, including hiring, training, performance management, and workload oversight.
+ Manage external audit processes, tax preparation coordination, and support for third‑party reviews.
+ Oversee account reconciliations, payables review, cash management, and general ledger accuracy.
+ Monitor project/job costing, review cost performance, and support operational leaders with financial data.
+ Review operating expenses, quarterly financials, and periodic P&L reporting.
+ Maintain and update accounting policies, procedures, and financial documentation.
+ Support insurance renewals, business licensing requirements, and financial documentation for external partners.
+ Oversee payroll processes, compensation updates, commission calculations, and benefits‑related updates.
+ Review and update employee‑related records including job descriptions, handbook updates, and annual compensation reviews.
+ Maintain confidentiality of financial information and ensure reliable financial operations.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
+ Experience in accounting/finance, most recently at Controller level
+ Proficiency in accounting, general ledger, reconciliation, month-end, financial reporting, and reporting
+ Experience in the construction industry is highly preferred
+ Experience in small to mid-size companies
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Power BI experience is a huge plus

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $130000.00 - $140000.00/yr.
Company pays 75% of insurance 3% 401K match Bonus based on company performance
