Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Controller to lead and enhance our financial operations. The ideal candidate should possess a strong understanding of accounting principles, demonstrate an entrepreneurial mindset, and focus on process improvement. This role involves working closely with the General Manager to ensure financial accuracy, disciplined expense management, and reliable reporting to support better operational decision-making.

Responsibilities

Own and manage the monthly close process, ensuring timely, accurate financial statements.Maintain balance sheet integrity, including reconciliations of bank accounts, inventory, work-in-progress (WIP), payables, and receivables.Prepare and present clear profit and loss reporting by business line (Sales / Service / Parts / Rentals / Towing).Establish metrics to improve management visibility into margins, labor utilization, and operating costs.Ensure CDK is used correctly across sales, service, and parts to maintain accurate data.Develop and enforce standard operating procedures for inventory tracking, repair order workflow, warranty billing, rental invoicing, and more.Strengthen internal controls over cash handling, check requests, purchasing, parts movement, and vendor payments.Lead and coach accounting staff to ensure accountability, accuracy, and timeliness.Build a culture of professionalism, ownership, and continuous learning.Monitor and forecast cash flow, inventory levels, vendor obligations, and operating expenses.Support pricing strategy adjustments based on market conditions and margin targets.Ensure compliance with sales tax, titling, 1099s, W-9s, and state dealer regulations.

Essential Skills

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.Minimum 3+ years of experience as a Controller, Sr. Accountant, or Accounting Manager in relevant industries.Strong knowledge of dealership systems; CDK experience strongly preferred.Proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables and VLOOKUPs.Proven experience improving processes and managing people.Ability to communicate clearly and influence positively across departments.

This position requires onsite work at a facility that shares space with other companies owned by the same person, including a debt buying company, a subprime auto finance company, and a commercial work truck dealership. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Harrington, DE.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr.
