Job Title: ControllerJob Description

The Controller leads the organization’s accounting and financial reporting functions, focusing on cost and project accounting. This role is accountable for ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial information, supporting both operational and strategic decision-making. This position collaborates closely with executive leadership, operations, and project teams to enhance financial processes, ensure compliance, and provide valuable insights into organizational performance.

ResponsibilitiesEnsure adherence to internal policies, GAAP, and applicable regulatory standards.Design, implement, and maintain internal controls to protect financial assets and ensure data integrity.Direct day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and the general ledger.Manage cost accounting activities such as project cost tracking, variance analysis, and inventory valuation.Establish and maintain systems that accurately capture, allocate, and report costs across departments and projects.Evaluate cost structures and collaborate with cross-functional partners to identify opportunities for efficiency and cost improvement.Oversee the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning efforts, including annual and multi-year plans aligned with strategic objectives and the Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) process.Supervise financial management of complex, multi-phase projects, including budgeting, forecasting, and performance monitoring.Partner with leadership to ensure appropriate revenue recognition, expense allocation, contract compliance, and accurate financial reporting.Develop and enhance project-level financial reporting to support performance reviews and informed decision-making.Provide leadership to the accounting team through coaching, training, performance management, and professional development.Act as a financial advisor to leaders and managers, strengthening financial understanding and promoting sound financial practices across the organization.Collaborate with internal stakeholders to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency and accuracy, leveraging continuous improvement and lean principles.Evaluate emerging technologies and best practices in financial management and support their implementation where appropriate.Partner with operations and leadership to assess and validate capital expenditure proposals in alignment with strategic and financial goals.Essential SkillsBachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; professional certification such as CMA preferred.Minimum of seven years of progressive accounting experience, including significant exposure to cost and project accounting.Strong working knowledge of GAAP, cost accounting methodologies, and project-based financial management.Experience with accounting systems, ERP platforms, and advanced Excel functionality.Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational capabilities.Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across functions.Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and guide teams to successful outcomes.Experience developing and using performance metrics and mentoring others in financial measurement and accountability.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience with syteline ERP systems is a plus.Experience in government contract work and bidding processes.Work Environment

The work schedule is Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, onsite, with potential for hybrid work arrangements in the future. The Controller reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and oversees accounting support staff. The role influences leadership and management on financial matters through expertise and insight, without direct authority. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $115000.00/yr.
