Description Position Overview We are seeking a highly motivated Controller with deep construction industry experience to serve as a strategic financial partner to company ownership. This role goes beyond traditional accounting and compliance—ideal for an entrepreneurial, data-driven finance leader who wants a seat at the table and the opportunity to directly influence business strategy, profitability, and growth. The Controller will oversee all accounting and financial operations while providing insightful analysis to support informed, forward-looking decision-making across the organization. Key Responsibilities Financial Leadership & Strategy + Act as a trusted financial advisor and direct partner to ownership, translating financial data into actionable business insights + Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning aligned with company growth objectives + Develop and monitor KPIs, job cost reporting, and profitability analysis by project, division, and customer + Provide scenario modeling and data-driven recommendations to support strategic initiatives Accounting & Reporting + Oversee all general ledger activities, month-end and year-end close processes + Prepare and present timely, accurate financial statements in accordance with GAAP + Manage revenue recognition, WIP schedules, percentage-of-completion accounting, and job cost accounting + Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax requirements Construction-Specific Oversight + Oversee job costing, change order tracking, retainage, and contract compliance + Partner with project managers to review project financial performance and proactively identify risks or opportunities + Monitor cash flow, bonding requirements, and banking relationships Controls, Systems & Process Improvement + Establish and maintain strong internal controls and financial policies + Evaluate, implement, and optimize accounting systems and reporting tools + Continuously improve processes to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability Team & Cross-Functional Collaboration + Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff (as applicable) + Collaborate closely with operations, project management, and executive leadership Why This Opportunity + Direct access to and influence on company ownership and strategy + Opportunity to shape financial processes and decision-making as the business grows + High-impact role with visibility across the entire organization Requirements Qualifications Required + Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (or related field) + CPA designation (active or in good standing) + Proven Controller or senior accounting leadership experience within the construction industry + Strong knowledge of construction accounting, job costing, and WIP reporting + Advanced financial analysis and reporting skills Preferred / Ideal Profile + Entrepreneurial mindset with a desire to be deeply involved in the business beyond the numbers + Comfortable partnering directly with ownership in a hands-on, growth-oriented environment + Highly analytical, data-driven decision-maker with strong business acumen + Proactive, adaptable, and able to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving organization Robert Half is the world’s first and largest specialized talent solutions firm that connects highly qualified job seekers to opportunities at great companies.
