Job Description
The Controller plays a key leadership role in overseeing accounting operations and financial reporting functions. This position ensures compliance with all legal, regulatory, and accounting standards, including adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The Controller manages a team of accounting professionals and is instrumental in maintaining accurate financial records and controls, supporting audit and regulatory requirements, budgeting, and asset-liability management, and contributing to strategic financial decision-making. This role partners closely with leadership to maintain sound financial practices and support strategic growth and operational excellence.
Responsibilities
Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team to promote high performance, accountability, and professional growth.Conduct performance evaluations and manage staffing needs, including hiring, training, and ongoing development.Maintain open and effective communication to ensure team alignment with organizational goals.Actively participate in cross-departmental projects and serve on committees such as Asset-Liability Management (ALM) and Pricing.Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely internal and external financial statements, including monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.Ensure compliance with GAAP, NCUA regulations, reporting requirements, and internal financial policies and procedures.Maintain and continuously improve accounting systems, internal controls, and reporting processes.Coordinate the creation and aggregation of accurate and timely ALM reporting deliverables.Serve as a key liaison during audits and regulatory exams, preparing documentation and managing responses.Maintain accurate records of all assets, liabilities, income, and expenses.Manage general ledger operations, account reconciliations, and regulatory filings.Oversee Accounts Payable and ensure proper controls and timely processing.Monitor and manage treasury functions, investment activities, and portfolio performance.Lead the development and management of departmental budgets, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.Provide financial insights and analysis to support strategic decision-making and long-term planning.Support leadership in the development, monitoring, and analysis of the annual budget and long-term financial forecasts.Essential Skills
Experience with GAAP and regulatory compliance, specifically NCUA regulations.Proficiency in budgeting, asset-liability management (ALM), and treasury operations.Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop an accounting team, including performance management.Additional Skills & Qualifications
A four-year college degree plus five to seven years of experience in the management of an accounting department in a banking setting, or a comparable combination of education and experience.Work Environment
This position offers a professional and business-oriented work environment, with hours from Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, including a 30-minute lunch break.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Permanent position based out of Middletown, NY.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $98000.00 - $120000.00/yr.
