Are you a professional accountant looking to lead finance function for successful 4th generation family business? Our client is seeking a Controller with initiative who can solve problems and work effectively with all departments and be the voice of finance for the business.  

Reporting to the Ownership Group, you will join a collaborative, entrepreneurial culture and have the ability to make a significant impact with a wide scope of responsibilities.

Key responsibilities include:

Planning, evaluating & coordinating accounting operational functions, responsible for GL. maintenance and financial reporting. Coordinating & preparing internal & external financial statements. Coordinating activities of external auditors. Providing management with information vital to the decision-making process. Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes. Developing and monitoring business performance metrics. Overseeing & maintaining compliance with regulatory reporting including payroll taxes, sales tax, income tax, and municipal taxes. Cashflow planning and management. Prepares and manages the forecast & budget functions; analyzing variances to recommend action plans. Oversee A/R, A/P, Payroll accounting functions Monitor investment accounts and provide guidance to maximize returns.

What the successful candidate will bring:

A CPA designation.  5+ years of accounting and finance experience in leading finance function for small to medium sized company. Work well in fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. High attention to detail and driven for high quality results. Ability to lead and develop a small accounting team Excellent problem solving skills with initiative and ability to take charge. Commitment to delivering excellence and continuous process improvement. Strong people skills and ability to work with all stakeholders. Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to change. High level Excel skills and comfort with accounting software. Advanced experience with general leger functions, creating financial statements and month-end/year-end processes. Thorough knowledge of Federal, Provincial and local accounting principles and filing requirements. Experience in retail or distribution sector would be an asset.
