Job Description

This is a hands-on leadership role overseeing all financial functions, including job costing, WIP reporting, budgeting, compliance, and team management. You will report directly to ownership and work closely with project management to keep the financial engine running smoothly. The role involves managing the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions.

ResponsibilitiesSupport in preparing accurate and timely financial statements and reports.Ensure compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements.Assist in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial analyses to support management decision-making.Oversee the reconciliation of bank accounts and monitor cash flow.Collaborate with project managers and other departments to ensure accurate project cost accounting and reporting.Develop and implement internal controls and financial policies to safeguard company assets.Manage the preparation of audit work papers and coordinate with external auditors during annual audits.Provide support in the preparation of tax returns and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.Contribute to the continuous improvement of accounting processes and systems.Mentor and train accounting staff, providing guidance and support as needed.Perform financial analysis and reporting as requested by management.Essential Skills8+ years of progressive accounting experience in the construction industry.Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA is a plus).Strong grasp of job cost accounting, WIP, and percentage of completion methods.Proficiency in construction accounting software such as Viewpoint-Vista or HCSS.Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills.Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.Construction experience is highly preferred.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience with job costing and sales forecasting.Familiarity with residential, commercial, and civil construction.Experience with ERP systems like Vista by Viewpoint or similar.Strong GAAP experience.3-5 years of accounting experience.Work Environment

The role is based onsite, five days a week, at the Valencia corporate office, with working hours from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM PST. You will be overseeing four departments: HR, Accounting, Payroll, and Project Management. All projects are located within Southern California, mainly in Los Angeles and North Orange County. The company is private, with 15-20 active projects averaging $8-10M, occasionally reaching up to $40M.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $140000.00 - $175000.00/yr.
