Control Room Operator (Power Plant)
The Control Room Operator plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant operation of our waste-to-energy facility. From the control room, this individual monitors plant systems, adjusts equipment settings, and responds to alarms and abnormal conditions in real-time. Key Responsibilities + Operate and monitor boiler, turbine, and auxiliary equipment from the control room. + Maintain optimal combustion conditions by adjusting controls and monitoring system parameters. + Conduct routine equipment checks, identify issues, and escalate or resolve them according to procedures. + Log operational data accurately and maintain records in compliance with environmental and safety regulations. + Communicate with maintenance and operations teams to coordinate equipment startup, shutdown, or troubleshooting. + Follow all safety protocols and report any hazards, near misses, or environmental incidents. + Maintain positive work environment by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with customers, clients, vendors, co-workers and management. + Support outage activities and emergency response procedures as needed. Skills and Competencies + Strong analytical and decision-making skills under pressure + Proficient in using SCADA and DCS systems + Effective communication and teamwork abilities + High attention to detail and commitment to operational excellence + Will be required to attain the ASME QRO Provisional Certification within 1 year after hire Working Conditions and Physical Demand + 12-hour rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays + Work is primarily in a control room environment, with occasional fieldwork and inspections + Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required + Climb and walk on heights often greater than 4 feet + Ascend and descend stairs and stationary vertical ladders as part of normal work activity and emergency egress situations. + Lift moderate to heavy material 50 lbs. + Move about all areas of the plant, including catwalks, deck grating, wet and muddy areas, and uneven surfaces. + Operate a 1.5-inch fire hose operating at 125 PSI line pressure to the extent required to extinguish fire + Operate fire extinguishing equipment ranging from handheld extinguishers to 200 lbs. portable units + Operate other equipment including, but not limited to, industrial forklifts, manlifts, skid steer type loaders, and other mobile equipment + Access confined spaces and pressure vessels through standard 12" by 16" manways
