ERM, the worlds largest pure play sustainability consultancy, have a fantastic entry level opportunity for a Marine Geoscience Consulting Associate, with a geophysical focus.

Our Capital Projects Delivery team includes an integrated marine geophysical and geotechnical team offering specialist services to clients across a range of sectors including marine aggregates, offshore wind, wave and tidal energy,  subsea cables, coastal/marine engineering, and ports/harbours developments.

Our Capital Projects Delivery team are driving the development of ERM’s Marine Centre of Excellence; a world-leading hub of marine environmental and planning consultancy services for a wide range of clients across numerous seabed user sectors and marine projects, including offshore wind. 

You will support a range of geoscience projects, with a focus on hydrographic and geomorphological interpretation using survey data including bathymetry, sidescan sonar, magnetometer and shallow seismic data using industry-standard software. You’ll interrogate these data to assess seabed habitats, shallow sediments, and physical processes for projects from sectors including marine aggregates, offshore renewables and marine cables. Projects will encompass either parts of or whole project life-cycles, including prospecting, site investigation, Environmental Impact Assessments, monitoring and licence conditions, and decommissioning and post project close out. You will feed into technical and non-technical report writing and data presentation, and provide support in writing proposals for future projects.

About you

Degree-qualified in a relevant marine geoscience or geophysics or oceanography  subjectExperience with ESRI Arc Map/ArcGIS Pro or QGIS, and ideally at least one specialist geoscience software program, such as IHS Kingdom, Petrel, Surfer, SonarWiz or Moga SeaviewPossess an understanding of offshore geophysical acquisition equipment and techniquesHave a reasonable grounding in interpreting seabed features and marine geomorphology in hydrographic and geophysical dataUnderstand the marine hydrodynamic environment and sediment transport processesSkilled in technical and non-technical writing, reviewing a range of reports, papers and technical results and extracting the required informationKeen to learn and develop current skills within a diverse team of subject matter experts within an international companyOffshore survey experience is desirable

At this early stage in your career, it is important for your development to be in and around the team as much as possible, soaking in the knowledge around you; therefore, you will need to live within daily commutable distance of an ERM office. Although Southampton would be the preferred base, other ERM offices including London or Norwich may be an option.
