Construction Controller
Description Controller – Construction We are seeking an experienced Controller to lead all accounting and financial operations for a growing construction organization. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for financial reporting, controls, compliance, and team management. The ideal candidate brings strong construction accounting expertise, operational awareness, and the ability to partner with leadership to drive performance. Key Responsibilities + Lead all core accounting functions including AP, AR, payroll, job cost accounting, inventory, and general ledger + Own Work-In-Progress (WIP) reporting, job cost tracking, and revenue recognition + Develop, implement, and maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies + Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and company policies + Coordinate quarterly reviews, annual audits, and tax filings + Serve as ERP system administrator and subject matter expert + Oversee expense reporting and corporate credit card programs + Partner with senior leadership and operations to ensure financial discipline and profitability by project + Provide financial data for licensing, bid qualifications, bonding, and external reporting needs + Maintain corporate registrations across states + Ensure timely and accurate payroll processing and payroll tax compliance + Understand and monitor Department of Labor regulations and construction insurance requirements + Identify and implement process improvements and efficiencies + Manage and develop accounting staff, including performance reviews and coaching + Safeguard confidential financial information Requirements Qualifications + Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA a plus) + 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibility + Construction or job-cost accounting experience strongly preferred + Experience working with banks, lenders, and sureties + Strong knowledge of accounting systems, internal controls, and financial reporting + Proven leadership, communication, and organizational skills + Ability to adapt in a fast-paced, project-driven environment Robert Half is the world’s first and largest specialized talent solutions firm that connects highly qualified job seekers to opportunities at great companies.
